About

A civic encyclopedia, built to last.

KS.City is a record of Kansas City — its places, its people, its history, and the owner-operated businesses that give it character.

What's here

The Map pins every business in the Registry across the metro — filterable by type, tier, neighborhood, price, and which kitchens stay open late. The Registry is a set of sourced, public-record profiles of Kansas City businesses, each placed in a transparency tier rather than given a star rating. The Wiki is an encyclopedic archive of Kansas City: neighborhoods, people, buildings, fountains, events, monuments, and the long arcs of the city's history.

How we tier businesses

The Registry doesn't rank businesses by stars. It places them in tiers based on how locally owned and rooted they are:

How it's verified

Registry pages are sourced and verified against public records. Wiki pages are written and continuously verified; pages still under review are marked Draft — under verification. We get things wrong sometimes, and when we do, we correct them in the open.

The cluster

KS.City LLC operates the Map, the Registry, and the Wiki. The Stare (Kansas City news and the Awards & Rankings program) is a structurally separate entity. There is a deliberate, visible wall between editorial coverage and commercial relationships: coverage is never for sale.

KS.City is a living record — new businesses, profiles, and history are added continuously, and existing pages are revised as we verify more. Spot an error or an omission? We fix it in the open.
