Al and Tim’s Bar & Grill is a family-owned neighborhood bar at 10911 Missouri 45 (NW Hwy 45), Parkville, MO 64152, in Platte County. It was opened in 2010 by Al Burns, a Buffalo, New York native who moved to Kansas City and could not find a wing he recognized, and it is built around Buffalo-style wings sauced with nothing but Frank’s hot sauce and butter. The room carries Buffalo Bills and Sabres memorabilia and shows every Bills and Sabres game — an outlier identity in Chiefs country that has made it a gathering point for western New York transplants. First-party branding now reads “Al and Tim’s,” though the site’s own About copy still uses the original “Al’s Bar & Grill.” Tier 1 — single location, owner-operated, no parent company.1234
Description
Al and Tim’s sits on Highway 45 on the western edge of Parkville, away from the historic downtown district and closer to a highway-side roadhouse than a Main Street storefront. First-party positioning is plain: “Award Winning Wings | Burgers | Beer,” and “Your Neighborhood Spot for Great Food and Good Times.”1
The wing is the point. Kansas City Magazine described them as “trimmed tight, fried hard and lightly sauced” and a “cult favorite of transplants,” and quoted owner Al Burns on the recipe — “The sauce is the sauce — it’s Frank’s hot sauce and butter” — and on why he does not vary it: “The problem is everybody’s trying to reinvent the wheel. Everybody’s trying to make chicken wings better and there’s no need to.”2 Wings are sold in tens, twenties, thirties and fifties, one sauce per ten.4
Beyond wings the kitchen runs a long bar-food board — a fried-appetizer section, eleven sandwiches including a pork tenderloin, a fried bologna and onions and a Reuben, burgers and brats, and an eleven-item hot dog list built on regional formats (Chicago, Detroit, Seattle, New York, Philly, Wisconsin, plus a house “Tim Dog”).4
The room’s other identity is Buffalo sports. The bar carries Bills and Sabres memorabilia and shows Bills and Sabres games; KSHB 41 covered Burns as the Buffalo native running a Bills bar inside Chiefs territory ahead of an AFC Championship game at Arrowhead, quoting him: “Buffalo is defined by two things: your local neighborhood church and your local bar.”3
First-party also advertises catering (wings, appetizers, sandwiches, party platters), online ordering for pickup, private-event booking, and a Wednesday wings special.1
Ownership and history
Al Burns opened the bar in 2010. First-party copy dates the opening — “Since opening our doors in 2010, Al’s Bar & Grill has become the heart of Parkville” — and the contact address published on the site is alburns21@yahoo.com.1
Kansas City Magazine (Martin Cizmar, January 19, 2021) reports that Burns moved to Kansas City from Buffalo about 25 years earlier, could not find wings that met his standard, began making them at home, and opened the Parkville bar after his wife received a promotion, modeling it on Buffalo watering holes.2 KSHB 41 (Dan Cohen) likewise identifies Burns as a Buffalo native who spent 42 years there before relocating.3
The “Tim” in the current name is. The business’s own site, Facebook page and one of its two Instagram handles now read “Al and Tim’s Bar & Grill,” while the site’s About paragraph, its Yelp and Tripadvisor listings and all located press still say “Al’s Bar & Grill.” No first-party statement explains the change, and no dated news item covering it was found this pass. Secondary search summaries describe Tim as Burns’s son; that claim is not sourced to anything resolvable and is deliberately not asserted here.
Ownership structure, any partnership or sale, and the date of the name change are all ****.
