Antojitos del Peru is Norma Palomino’s Peruvian restaurant at 7809 Quivira Rd in Lenexa — the only Peruvian spot consistently surfacing in KC-area searches. Palomino immigrated from the Apurimac region of Peru to Kansas City in 2003; when her husband was injured in 2004–2005, she began cooking tamales and ceviche for the local Peruvian community to make ends meet. Word of mouth eventually led to opening the restaurant. All food made from scratch daily. Uncle Sam’s Immigrant Cafe and Tableside Mag both profiled her story.
Description
Antojitos del Peru is Norma Palomino’s Peruvian restaurant in Lenexa — and one of the only dedicated Peruvian restaurants in the KC metro. Palomino immigrated from the Apurimac region of Peru to Kansas City in 2003 at age 33, leaving her daughter behind. When her husband was injured the following year, she began cooking tamales and ceviche for the local KC Peruvian community to make ends meet; word of mouth grew until the restaurant became the natural next step. Every dish is made from scratch daily. Uncle Sam’s Immigrant Cafe documented her founding story in 2020; Tableside Magazine covered the restaurant’s role in bringing Peruvian cuisine to the KC market. The restaurant remains active (Yelp updated March 2026).
Tier classification
Tier 2 — Peruvian immigrant, KC-dedicated since 2003, fully documented. Uncle Sam’s Immigrant Cafe and Tableside Magazine both confirm Norma Palomino’s Peruvian origin (Apurimac region) and her 2003 immigration to Kansas City. The restaurant grew directly from community cooking for KC’s Peruvian diaspora. No ambiguity on birthplace or KC dedication. Tier 2 confirmed.
