Baramee Thai Bistro is Chef Nutnisa Hoffman’s window into Northeastern (Isaan) Thai cooking — a regional tradition rarely seen in Kansas City before she brought it to the Crossroads in January 2019. Nutnisa grew up near Bangkok, where her family owned a restaurant, but never planned to join the business until she emigrated to Kansas City with her husband Doug and found herself missing the food she’d grown up cooking. The couple opened Mali Thai Bistro in Lee’s Summit in 2015, then Baramee in the Crossroads four years later with a more specific regional focus. Fresh produce comes from the City Market and local farms. The menu centers on Isaan staples — laab (herb-forward minced meat salad), sticky rice, papaya salad, tom yum soup — alongside curries and the kitchen’s acclaimed Tiger Cry Beef with a housemade chile sauce.
