Description

Big Grove Brewery & Taproom occupies roughly 13,000 square feet on the high-profile upper level of 7060 Mission Road, at the corner of West 71st Street and Mission Road in The Shops of Prairie Village.¹² It is the brewery’s first location in the Kansas City metro and its seventh taproom overall.³⁴

The site is part of the shopping center’s large-scale redevelopment, built into the former Macy’s footprint; Big Grove was positioned as the anchor tenant of that reboot.¹ Local coverage described it as a “massive” Johnson County restaurant and taproom before opening, with reported seating in the several-hundred range.⁵ The brewery reported five-figure sales on its soft-opening day.¹

Ownership and history

Big Grove Brewery was founded in 2013 in Solon, Iowa, starting on a 3.5-barrel brewhouse.¹ It has since grown to operate taprooms in Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Iowa City, Solon, and Omaha, plus the Prairie Village location and a Big Grove coffee shop.³ The company ranks in the top 75 nationally for barrel production.¹

Marketing director Bryan Farrell described a multi-year site search: “We toured several locations in the city for several years and felt like this was a good fit for us.”¹

Independence: Big Grove is not a national franchise and no private-equity majority holder was identified in the sources reviewed.
