Callie Mae’s Barkery & Bath is an independent dog bakery, pet-supply shop and self-service dog wash at 7140 Wornall Rd, Suite 100, Kansas City, MO 64114, in Waldo. It opened in September 2024 and is owned by Sarah Deters, a pastry chef who spent 15 years as corporate executive chef at Three Dog Bakery before starting her own shop, with business partner Andy Wiltz. The shop bakes its treats on site, sells dog and cat food, chews, toys and supplies, and runs two self-service dog “spaw” wash stations, no appointment needed. A second store opened at Summit Fair in Lee’s Summit, and a Lenexa store is planned for autumn 2026. Tier 1 — a locally owned, KC-baked independent, not a franchise.123456

Description

Callie Mae’s Barkery & Bath occupies a Wornall Road storefront in Waldo with its own parking lot, a few doors from Betty Rae’s Ice Cream and Hemma Hemma.3 The business runs three things off one floor: a bakery case of hand-made dog treats, a pet-supply store, and self-service dog wash stations.

The bakery is the anchor. Treats are made by hand on site in Kansas City, and the shop’s stated formulation rule is no preservatives, artificial colors or artificial flavors, leaning instead on peanut butter (xylitol-free), pumpkin, sweet potato, blueberries, oats, coconut oil and apples.17 The published treat list runs to cookies and biscuits (Squirrel Cookie, Bacon Cheddar Pretzel Twist, Puppy Grahams), cakes and cupcakes (Pumpkin Peanut Butter Cake, Bacon Cheddar Cupcake, Barkday Confetti Cake) and bars (Brookie, Cider Donut, S’more), with grain-free options flagged throughout.8 Custom cakes for birthdays and “gotcha days” are made to order.53

Beyond the case, the shop stocks dog and cat food (kibble, wet, frozen, freeze-dried, toppers), chews, supplements, flea and tick products, shampoo, collars, harnesses, leashes, bowls, apparel and toys — the full inventory is browsable on the shop’s own e-commerce site.93

The “Bath” half is self-service. Each station supplies premium shampoos and conditioners, an adjustable tub sized for dogs of any size, towels and blow dryers, and brushes and combs; no appointment is necessary, and the wash bays close half an hour before the store does.5 The Waldo shop has two stations.34 Full-service grooming by a groomer is not advertised on any first-party page — the bath offering as documented is customer-operated. if full-service grooming is later added.

Online ordering is advertised as “coming soon” on the marketing site, while the separate shop subdomain already carries a live cart.89

Ownership and history

Owner: Sarah Deters. The shop’s own about page describes it as “locally owned and operated,” led by “Pastry Chef, Sarah Deters, who brings 15 years of experience in the pet bakery industry.”2 Inside Brookside, reporting on the opening in November 2024, named that experience specifically: Deters was corporate executive chef at Three Dog Bakery for 15 years before opening her own place, and did so “along with her business partner Andy Wiltz (who owns several pet related services).”3 Wiltz is the owner of Woof’s Play & Stay, the Merriam-based doggy daycare, boarding and grooming company he bought in early 2015 after a decade at Accenture.10 The precise ownership split between Deters and Wiltz is not documented in any source located.

The name. Callie Mae was Deters’ rescue dog — the Johnson County Post describes the boxer as her “one and only foster fail” from her long stint fostering for the Kansas City rescue Chain of Hope.4 The company’s own telling: Callie Mae “had lived a life of neglect before finding her forever home with Sarah and her family,” and was nursed back to health through nutrition and care.2

Deters told Inside Brookside she chose Waldo deliberately: “We lived in Waldo for eight years before moving south to have more space for our dogs. I wanted to have a store in Waldo, because the people here are so welcoming and supportive.”3 She and her husband live in Red Bridge and foster dogs.3

Relationship to Brookside Barkery & Bath — separate businesses

Callie Mae’s Barkery & Bath and brookside-barkery-and-bath are unrelated companies. They share a category, a corner of south Kansas City, and the coined word “Barkery,” and nothing else that any source supports:

  • Different founders and owners. Brookside Barkery was founded in 2003 by Delena Stout and sold at the end of 2022 to Brian and Jennifer Murphy.1112 Callie Mae’s was founded in 2024 by Sarah Deters with Andy Wiltz.3
  • Different domains, storefronts and phone numbers. brooksidebarkery.com (flagship 6201 Oak St) versus calliemaesbarkery.com (7140 Wornall Rd).111
  • No corporate link, franchise, or succession is asserted by either company or by any source located. Brookside Barkery continued trading through and past Callie Mae’s 2024 opening, so this is not a successor operation.12

The Registry records them as competitors in the same lane, cross-linked for reader navigation only. No shared-ownership claim should be inferred from the naming similarity — “barkery” is a generic portmanteau in the dog-bakery trade, and Deters’ own background is at a third KC company, Three Dog Bakery.3
