Chicago’s — trading socially as Chicago’s Neighborhood Bar and Chicago’s on the Hill — is a corner bar at 534 Central Ave at N 6th St, on the Strawberry Hill side of the Central Avenue corridor in Kansas City, Kansas. Kansas City Magazine characterizes it as a sportsy successor to Breit’s, drawing Ward graduates and BPU employees, with a Jimi Hendrix painting on the wall and an annual February beer-pong tournament; Danny Dumovich, a former Breit’s bartender, is named as one of the owners. Free popcorn, a rotating craft-beer list, daily specials. Tier 1 — owner-operated, single-location, wholly Wyandotte County. Confirmed operating: first-party posts through 10 August 2026.123

Description

Chicago’s sits on the corner of 6th and Central, the block that Visit Kansas City, KS describes as the booming Central Avenue corridor alongside Slap’s BBQ and Splitlog Coffee — effectively the approach to Strawberry Hill from the west.4 The bar’s own Instagram bio places it “in historic Strawberry Hill,” boasting “a great rotating craft beer menu, and a crazy good vibe.”2

Kansas City Magazine’s Kansas City, Kansas dive-bar survey draws the sharpest picture: Chicago’s reads as a kind of descendant of Breit’s Stein and Deli — “sportsy, lots of millennial-aged Ward grads and BPU employees, but not quite the same time-capsule feel,” with a Jimi Hendrix painting on the wall and a popular beer-pong tournament held every February.1 Visit Kansas City, KS’s 2023 dive-bar roundup lists friendly bartenders, free popcorn, and a strong beer selection; its 2025 follow-up adds a chalkboard menu and a corner popcorn machine, comparing the room’s regulars-know-regulars feel to Cheers.35

The bar also runs community-facing events: 2026 first-party posts include a Coors kickoff party supporting IAFF Local 64 firefighters and a Juneteenth event.2

Ownership and history

Kansas City Magazine (June 28, 2021) names Danny Dumovich — previously a bartender at Breit’s Stein and Deli, a few blocks north on N 5th St — as one of the owners of Chicago’s, and frames the bar as carrying forward some of Breit’s character in a younger register.1 The magazine names no co-owner.

Third-party listing copy states that the bar’s current incarnation was established in March 2013, and that a bar has occupied the site in some form since the late 19th century. That copy is repeated across listings and appears to originate from the venue’s own About text, but the primary page did not render on retrieval this pass, so both claims are recorded as unconfirmed.

menu_status: unverified. Chicago’s is a drinks-only neighborhood bar with no published menu — no website, and no itemized first-party list. What is sourced: a rotating craft-beer selection (first-party Instagram bio), free popcorn and a chalkboard menu behind the bar (Visit Kansas City, KS), and daily drink specials plus a weekday happy hour reported in listing copy.235 No prices are recorded; aggregator “menu” pages for this bar are not a usable source.
