El Ranchero Mexican Restaurant is a family-owned, full-service Mexican restaurant with a bar and a bank of televisions at 1867 SW State Route 7 in Blue Springs, among the restaurants along 7 Highway. It appears to have taken over a predecessor Mexican restaurant in the same space around 2021 and describes its food as “authentic Mexican meals made with recipes our family from the other side.” Diners know it for fajita platters, the fajita salad, enchiladas, house guacamole, lunch and drink specials and a loud, busy dining room at peak hours.
Description
El Ranchero sits on 7 Highway in Blue Springs, a few doors from Legends of Asia (0.05 mi), The Pizza Place and a Daylight Donuts.1 The official site’s framing is family and homeland: “a place where you and your family can enjoy our authentic Mexican meals made with recipes our family from the other side.”2 Reviewers describe a laid-back, family-oriented room with booths, tables, a bar and “plenty of big screen TVs,” and warn that it gets very loud at lunch and dinner peaks.23
The menu, as far as it can be reconstructed from diner reports and the site’s own testimonial blurb, is the broad Mexican-American canon: chicken, steak and combination fajitas, a fajita salad “considered one of the best around,” enchiladas (Guanajuato and Supremas platters), quesadillas Mexicana and Grande, nachos fajita mix, steak ranchero, tamales, tacos, chips and salsa with a small margarita, and desserts of fried ice cream, sopapillas, flan and cheesecake.32 Lunch specials and drink specials run through the week.3 Reviewers repeatedly praise the homemade guacamole and fresh-cut fries.2
Ownership and history
Very little is documented. The restaurant calls itself family-owned and its recipes those of “our family from the other side” — i.e., Mexico — but no owner is named on the site, in local press, or in the county-tourism and chamber directories consulted.2 A Facebook post indexed under the restaurant’s page states that “El Ranchero Mexican Restaurant, formerly known as El Dorado Mexican Restaurant, is now under new management,” which places a predecessor Mexican restaurant in the same building and dates the change of hands to roughly 2021, when the earliest reviews of El Ranchero appear.43 The Tripadvisor listing’s identifier is consistent with creation in 2021.1
An El Ranchero Lee’s Summit operates at 547 SE Melody Lane in Lee’s Summit; whether it shares ownership with the Blue Springs restaurant, or merely a common name, is not established.5
A note on the website: when retrieved on 2026-08-29 the site’s home page was intact, but its two menu pages (/menu-2/ and /menu/) returned injected third-party gambling spam in place of the restaurant’s menu — a sign of a compromised or neglected WordPress install. The home page’s address and Facebook link are treated as reliable; the menu pages are not.26
