Elite Cycling is the Johnson County shop for people who race, or who at least buy as though they might. It sits at 4563 Indian Creek Parkway in the Fox Hill area of Overland Park, sells Cervelo, Giant, Felt, Salsa and Trek, and runs a certified Retül fit studio — the fitting service, not the bike sale, is arguably the product. Trade press in 2018 put roughly forty percent of its business in triathlon, with road and gravel racing the growth plan. Its slogan is “Elite Service for EVERY Athlete!”, which is a slightly defensive thing for a shop of this kind to have to say.

Description

Elite Cycling is an independent bicycle retailer, service shop and fit studio in Overland Park, at 4563 Indian Creek Parkway in the Fox Hill area.1 Its stated positioning is “Elite Service for EVERY Athlete!”1

The shop’s brand mix is unusually road- and race-weighted for the metro: Cervelo, Giant, Felt, Salsa and Trek, with 3T also given its own page, and Garmin on the accessories side.12 Alongside bikes, parts, clothing and accessories, it runs a bike trade-in programme and a certified Retül Fit Center.1

The fitting service is the part worth understanding. Retül is a motion-capture bike-fitting system, and a certified fit centre is a meaningfully different proposition from a shop that adjusts a saddle height at point of sale — it is a bookable service with its own price and its own repeat customers, and it is the reason a rider will drive across the metro to a particular shop. Elite has both a general Retül fit page and an article page dedicated to the service.1

Trade press in May 2018 characterised the business as roughly forty percent triathlon, expanding into road and gravel racing, and named Scott Stevens as a recently hired manager.3 Gravel in particular has since become the dominant growth discipline in the Kansas and Missouri riding scene, which makes that a well-timed read.

The shop is a Trek dealer, not a Trek store. Trek’s own Kansas City metro retail store index names only Lawrence, Lee’s Summit and Shawnee; Elite Cycling appears instead in Trek’s dealer directory, which is an ordinary stocking arrangement.42 This distinction is the whole point of the consolidator check and is set out below.

History

No founding date is stated on any first-party page located this pass. A search-surfaced summary reports that Elite Cycling was established in 2007 and “started by two enthusiastic bicycle riders, one a road rider, and one a triathlete,” which is consistent with the shop’s later triathlon weighting — but no page carrying that statement was located directly, and it is recorded here as unverified rather than asserted.5

The shop’s location history is genuinely tangled and the sources should not be smoothed together:

  • A travel directory profile lists Elite Cycling at 10673 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66206, phone 913-648-6277, with a brand mix of Jamis, Parlee and Argon18.6 Both the address and the brands differ entirely from the current site. This is stale material describing an earlier configuration of the business, not a second shop.
  • Bicycle Retailer and Industry News in May 2018 located the shop in Leawood.3
  • The current site retains an /about/mission-farms-leawood-pg142.htm page — a Mission Farms, Leawood store page — but that page carries the Overland Park address and phone and gives no Leawood address at all.1
  • Facebook, the site header and the site footer all give Overland Park.17

The most economical reading is that Elite Cycling was formerly in Leawood — at Mission Road, then at Mission Farms — and now trades from Fox Hill in Overland Park, with the old store page left in place unrevised. That reading is inference and is not asserted. What is verified is that the business currently publishes one address, in Overland Park.

The metro context is documented: the same 2018 trade piece surveyed a Kansas City independent-retail market that has contracted sharply since. Turner’s Cycling and Fitness of Overland Park, founded 1960, closed in June 2019.3 Velo+ of Lenexa and Volker Bicycles of West 39th Street have both since lost their web domains to unrelated registrants. Elite Cycling’s survival through that period is the substantive historical fact available.
