Frutopia KC is Sandy Knight’s Mexican paletería and grill on Independence Avenue — one of the anchor food businesses in HNEKC, with three metro locations and a catering operation built around popsicle carts for events. The Independence Ave location at 3737 is the largest of the three.

The menu centers on handcrafted paletas in 30+ rotating flavors including guava, cactus, and seasonal specials — made fresh daily — alongside tacos and tamales from the grill. Frutopia has been a NEKC Chamber member, a repeat stop on the Independence Avenue International Taste & Tour, and was featured in the KCUR May 2026 piece on Kansas City’s Hispanic restaurant corridor ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
