Harold’s Drive-In is a walk-up drive-in restaurant at 1337 Admiral Blvd, north of downtown Kansas City on the edge of Columbus Park, trading since 1958 — originally as Harold’s Dairy Supreme under Harold McBain, in a building that dates to 1948.1 It closed on December 31, 2024 after a 66-year run under owner Deb Walker, and reopened on Friday, April 25, 2025 under new owner Nate Bond, a customer who bought the property and stripped it back toward its original mid-century look.1 The kitchen is a short-order griddle operation — hand-breaded pork tenderloins, double smash burgers, house-made chili, hand-breaded onion rings, biscuits and gravy, and shakes and malts — with only the fries and tater tots arriving pre-frozen.12 Tier 1 — owner-operated, single location, resident owner.

Disambiguation / stale-listing warning: two Yelp entries exist for this address. The older one is flagged CLOSED and describes the pre-2025 operation that ended 2024-12-31; a second, separate entry tracks the reopened business. Aggregator “closed” flags for 1337 Admiral Blvd should therefore be read as referring to the Walker-era business, not the current one. The determinative evidence for current operation is first-party: a live Toast ordering menu under Harold’s 1958 LLC with per-item prices and a real-time out-of-stock flag, plus a live hours line on the business’s own domain, both checked 2026-08-13.32

Description

Harold’s is a small freestanding drive-in building on Admiral Boulevard — the kind of 1940s roadside structure that mostly did not survive urban renewal on the north edge of downtown. It runs a griddle-and-fryer menu across breakfast and lunch, closing mid-afternoon.

Breakfast is the deeper half of the menu: egg-and-cheese sandwiches built up through sausage, bacon, ham, turkey sausage and turkey bacon; a “meat trio” of country ham, bacon and sausage with eggs; an egg plate with hashbrowns and toast; a vegetable omelette; biscuits and gravy in two- and three-biscuit sizes; and a three-biscuit “Bubba breakfast” with eggs and hashbrowns.3

Lunch runs cheeseburgers and bacon cheeseburgers, a hand-breaded pork tenderloin sandwich, chicken tenderloin and chicken fingers, a quarter-pound hot dog and chili dog, grilled cheese, BLT, ham and cheese, an Italian steak sandwich and a chicken parmesan.3

Sides and fountain. Fries, tater tots, chili cheese fries and tots, a cup of chili; onion rings, mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers and fried mushrooms; shakes, malts, floats and ice cream cups and mixers.3

Northeast News recorded the kitchen practice at reopening: the tenderloins and onion rings are hand-breaded, the beef is fresh-ground, the chili is house-made, and only the french fries and tater tots come in pre-prepared.1 That is an unusual amount of scratch work for a menu priced at this level.

Ownership and history

The restaurant opened in 1958 as Harold’s Dairy Supreme, owned by Harold McBain, in a building that already stood — the structure dates to 1948.1

Deb Walker was the owner who closed it. Operations ended December 31, 2024, after a 66-year run; Northeast News attributes the closure to lease difficulties and a pandemic-era decline in customers.1 The closure drew metro-wide coverage at the time.4

Nate Bond bought the property and reopened it on Friday, April 25, 2025.1 Bond was a customer before he was the owner, and Northeast News frames the purchase as nostalgia-driven. His renovation was subtractive rather than additive: he removed a wooden deck that had been built onto the structure and painted the floor tiles in a checkerboard pattern, aiming the room back at its 1958 character. In his words to the paper: “I wanted Harold’s to have that simple, drive-in feel, an old school look.”1

The operating entity is registered as Harold’s 1958 LLC, the name under which the Toast ordering account trades.3

Names note: Harold McBain, Deb Walker and Nate Bond are reproduced exactly as Northeast News prints them. No other owner, family member or investor is named in any source read, and none is invented here — “.
