Josey Records is a Dallas-founded record-store chain whose Kansas City room sits at 1815 McGee St in the Crossroads Arts District — reported at roughly 6,500 sq ft of new and used LPs, 45s, CDs, cassettes, turntables and audio gear. The KC store opened June 20, 2015 as the chain’s second location, and hosts release parties, live in-store shows and First Fridays. Tier 3 — out-of-metro parent with a real, long-running local room (same honest disclosure the Registry applies to ricochet-social-kc).123

Description

A large-format record store on the McGee side of the Crossroads: new releases at the front of the racks, deep used stock behind them, plus 45s, CDs, cassettes, turntables, speakers, posters and shirts. Visit KC describes a brick-walled room of roughly 6,500 sq ft carrying both current pressings and older rarities, and notes that the floor space doubles as a venue — release parties, live shows and First Fridays. The Pitch’s opening coverage put the initial buy at 50,000–60,000 records and described a performance stage for local bands plus a small lounge serving local beer.32

KCUR’s 2024 metro record-store guide lists the store at 1815 McGee St. among its recommended shops.4

Ownership and history

Josey Records was founded in Dallas in October 2014 by Luke Sardello, J.T. Donaldson and Waric Cameron; Donaldson and Cameron are house producers/DJs who had played Kansas City through the 2000s. The Kansas City store followed as the chain’s second room, opening Saturday, June 20, 2015, with Sardello telling The Pitch the city was chosen because “we all have a little bit of history here.”2

The chain has since grown well beyond two rooms: the first-party locations page currently lists Dallas (Farmers Branch), Kansas City, Tulsa, Plano and Sedalia, with Garland also appearing in site navigation.1

An address note: The Pitch’s 2015 opening piece gave the KC address as 1814 Oak Street, while first-party and current KC coverage give 1815 McGee St. Both refer to the same Crossroads block; the first-party McGee address is treated as authoritative here. Whether the store relocated within the block or simply changed which frontage it publishes is “.214

menu_status: na — retail record store with no food service. The Pitch’s 2015 opening coverage mentions a small lounge area serving local beer; no first-party priced drink list is published, so nothing is transcribed here.2
