KC Cat Clinic is a feline-only veterinary hospital at 7107 Main Street in the Brookside–Waldo corridor, established in 1973 and one of the longest-running cat-exclusive practices in the region. It is AAHA-accredited and holds Gold-level Cat Friendly Practice certification from the American Association of Feline Practitioners. It is also owned by VetCor, a national veterinary consolidator operating hundreds of hospitals across the United States — a fact established here from the clinic’s own careers page and corporate email domain, not from any announcement. The clinic name, address and signage are unchanged.

Description

KC Cat Clinic is a cat-only veterinary hospital on Main Street just north of the Waldo business district, in what the clinic itself calls “the Brookside/Waldo area.”1 It has operated since 1973 and treats no species other than cats.2

The feline-exclusive model is the clinic’s substantive distinction, and it is backed by credentials rather than positioning alone. The practice is accredited by the American Animal Hospital Association, is Low Stress Handling certified, and holds Cat Friendly Practice certification at Gold level from the American Association of Feline Practitioners.2 The rationale it gives is that a cat-only environment produces “less anxious visits and less stressful handling” — a claim consistent with the AAFP certification standards it holds. It keeps a resident practice cat named Snuffs.3

Three veterinarians practise there: Dr. Ellen Gloor, Dr. Katherine Hodes and Dr. Julia Warfield, supported by a hospital manager, a behaviorist, veterinary assistants, a client care specialist and pet care attendants.3 Services span preventive feline care, diagnostics, dental care, surgical procedures, behavior counseling, laser therapy, drop-off appointments and an in-house pharmacy.3 After-hours emergencies are referred to BluePearl Pet Hospital or Mission Veterinary Emergency & Specialty.1

Ownership. The clinic is owned by VetCor, a national veterinary hospital consolidator. This is not stated anywhere in the clinic’s public-facing description of itself — the About page speaks only of continuity since 1973 — but it is established plainly by the clinic’s own careers page, which offers “Vetcor University” training, a “Lend a Hand Program” paying increased rates “to help a sister hospital,” “VetLife Days” to “rotate to a sister hospital,” and a national benefits schedule including 401(k) with company contribution, tuition assistance and fully covered DVM professional liability insurance.4 The same careers form offers “Selling Your Business” as a contact subject — an acquisition-intake channel, not something a single independent clinic operates.4 The clinic’s email address runs on the shared corporate domain yourvetdoc.com.2

History

KC Cat Clinic was established in 1973, making it one of the earliest cat-exclusive veterinary practices in the Kansas City region and among the earlier ones nationally — feline-only practice was a young idea at the time, and the AAFP’s board certification in feline practice did not yet exist.2 The clinic’s own framing of its history is a statement of continuity: “A lot has changed since we first opened our doors, but one thing that hasn’t is our commitment to our patients and the people who love them.”2

For most of that history the clinic was closely identified with Eliza Sundahl, DVM, DABVP, a board-certified feline practitioner who owned it and who became a nationally significant figure in the specialty. She served two years as president of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, held numerous other positions in that association, and was involved in establishing board certification in feline medicine through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. She studied at Boston University before completing her veterinary degree at Kansas State University, and has written for the veterinary trade press.5 Reported accounts state that she joined the clinic in 1978 and became its owner in 1979; the Compiler could not confirm those dates against a first-party or resolvable archival source, and they are flagged accordingly.

Dr. Sundahl no longer appears on the clinic’s team page.3 At some point the practice passed to VetCor. Neither the date of that transaction nor its terms were locatable in this pass, and no acquisition announcement, press coverage or clinic statement about the change of ownership was found.

  4. KC Cat Clinic — official “Careers” page — asserts: the VetCor parent relationship. Under Training & Development the page lists “Vetcor University - training for skill development and career growth,” “Mentorship Program,” “CE Allowance and opportunities,” “Tuition Assistance Program,” “Lend a Hand Program – increased pay to help a sister hospital,” and “VetLife Days – rotate to a sister hospital.” Under Health & Welfare and Financial Wellbeing it lists medical/dental/vision insurance, optional life, disability and accidental insurance, an EAP with counseling and mental-health benefits, fully covered DVM professional liability insurance, licensure fees and professional/association dues, 401K with company contribution, health savings account, flexible spending account, EAP with financial and legal advice, tuition assistance and an employee referral bonus. The “Quick Apply” contact form offers subject options including “Career Opportunities,” “Selling Your Business,” “Employee Verification,” “Employee Benefits,” “Complaint,” “Payroll” and “Vendor Questions,” and asks applicants to indicate “Practice(s) of Interest: Small Animal / Large Animal / Exotics / Mixed Animal” — options meaningless for a cat-only clinic but standard on a multi-hospital group’s shared careers template. The page states “We do not currently have any open positions at KC Cat Clinic.” This is the primary ownership proof. (Retrieved 2026-08-14.) ↩ ↩2

  5. dvm360 — author profile, “Eliza Sundahl, DVM, DABVP (feline practice)” — and LinkedIn profile, “Eliza Sundahl – Veterinarian/Owner, KC Cat Clinic” — linkedin.com — assert: Dr. Eliza Sundahl is a veterinarian board-certified in feline practice by the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, has been identified professionally as veterinarian and owner of KC Cat Clinic, has held multiple positions in the American Association of Feline Practitioners including two years as president, was involved in establishing board certification in feline medicine through the ABVP, and completed veterinary study at Kansas State University after graduating from Boston University. Sourcing caveat: the dvm360 page returned HTTP 403 to automated retrieval and the LinkedIn profile was not fetched; the substance above is drawn from search-engine summaries of these two resolvable pages and should be re-confirmed by hand. The frequently-repeated claim that she joined the clinic in 1978 and became owner in 1979 is NOT asserted as fact in the body — see the note below. ↩
