Larry’s Nursery is a family-owned plant nursery on NW Platte Road in Riverside, Missouri, growing houseplants, succulents, annuals, perennials, vegetables and herbs on a Northland lot next to Red X.
Description
Larry’s Nursery occupies a greenhouse lot at 2501 NW Platte Road in Riverside, a small incorporated city in southern Platte County on the Missouri side of the Kansas City metro — not Riverside, California.12 The retail address sits immediately east of Red X, the long-running Platte Road discount emporium at 2401 NW Platte Road.23 A separate first-party freight address, for semi-truck delivery only, is published as 305 NW Business Park Lane, Riverside, MO 64150.1
The nursery states that it is open year-round and describes itself as growing and carrying one of the larger houseplant and succulent/cactus selections in the metro, alongside thousands of perennials, a wide annual list, vegetables and herbs, plus citrus, water plants, air plants, and pottery.1 It positions the stock against box-store garden centers: “Our goal is to grow varieties that you don’t see at the box stores, while keeping prices at or below what you see out there.”1
Bailey Nurseries, the Minnesota grower behind First Editions shrubs and trees, Endless Summer hydrangeas and Easy Elegance roses, lists Larry’s as a current retailer of its brands, with the Riverside street address and the 816-587-4535 phone number, on a location page dated 22 March 2026.4 That is a manufacturer dealership, not a franchise.
eGift cards are sold through a Square storefront linked from the nursery’s own home page, in denominations the site states as $10–$200, redeemable in store.15
Ownership and history
The nursery’s own About page identifies it as “a family owned and operated Northland business” and gives this sequence:2
- Started in the 1970s as Antioch Tropical Plants, specializing in house plants.
- Migrated to bedding plants, herbs, vegetables, tropicals and perennials in the early 1980s.
- “We have been at our current Riverside location since 1978 when we started selling seed annuals in front of Red X.”
The same page also uses the un-dated marketing line “for the last 40 years.” That is a tenure claim, not a founding year, and is not converted here into one. A third-party “almost 50 years” figure circulating in local history discussion is likewise not treated as a founding year.
The owner’s name is not established. No first-party page, press feature, or reachable public filing located in this pass names an owner or the person the “Larry” in the trade name refers to. Missouri Secretary of State lookup was not available (Cloudflare challenge). “
A January 2026 visitor video recorded on the lot includes a staff interview that conflicts with the 1978 Riverside-location claim. Asked how long Larry’s had been “here,” a staff member answered that “this location” had been open “about a little over 20 years. 21, 22,” and that the present lot had previously been a growth facility / satellite parking area that later converted to retail, now the only location.6 The About page and the staff interview can both be true only if 1978 refers to selling in front of Red X and the present greenhouse retail plant is later; they cannot both be true if they are describing the same storefront. Both accounts are printed here. Neither is picked.
