Legend of Asia is the 300-seat Chinese buffet on Missouri 7 in Blue Springs — a 9,240-square-foot dining room that bills itself as the biggest Asian restaurant in the Kansas City area, with an 80-dish buffet line, a 25-variety sushi bar, hibachi and a cook-to-order Mongolian grill, plus a 100-seat banquet room. It has been the default big-group buffet for eastern Jackson County for well over a decade, and carries one hard piece of public record: a 2017 U.S. Department of Labor settlement over unpaid wages to its kitchen staff.
Description
Legend of Asia sits in a freestanding building on the west side of Missouri 7 (SW 7 Highway) in south Blue Springs, between Interstate 70 and the Adams Dairy area.1 The scale is the point: the restaurant describes “a 9,240-square-foot dining room that comfortably seats more than 300 guests,” and positions itself as “the biggest Asian restaurant in Kansas City area,” a favorite “for families and groups across Blue Springs, Independence, Lee’s Summit, and the greater Eastern Jackson County area.”2 A 100-seat banquet room is available for events.2
The buffet line runs “more than 80 Chinese dishes” and “over 25 varieties of authentic Japanese sushi,” with a hibachi and a Mongolian grill where guests pick meats, seafood and vegetables and a sauce and have it cooked to order; the restaurant advertises no MSG.2 The carry-out menu is a standard American-Chinese list — egg rolls, wonton and hot-and-sour soups, ma po tofu, fried rice, lo mein and chow mei fun, egg foo young, moo shu with pancakes, “healthy steamed” dishes, luncheon specials and combination plates — plus nigiri and rolls from the sushi bar; prices are not published online.3 Recent Tripadvisor reviewers put the adult dinner buffet at roughly $20 (2024) to $25 (April 2026) per person.4
Ownership and history
The restaurant’s “About” page says only that it has served the area “for over a decade”; its news archive on the official site runs back to December 2013, and a third-party buffet directory dates the business to 1995.256 No owner is named on the site, the entity behind the domain (legendofasiallc.com) is not identified in press, and the Missouri business-entity record was not pulled for this draft. Note that the scout’s address for this lead (756 US-40, Blue Springs 64015) belongs to a different buffet, China City Super Buffet; Legend of Asia has been on Route 7 throughout the period covered by its site.17
The one piece of public record is a labor case. On October 25, 2017 the U.S. Department of Labor announced that its Wage and Hour Division had reached an agreement with Legend of Asia and its manager, Yu Min Xiao, to resolve Fair Labor Standards Act violations: investigators found the restaurant paid cooks a monthly salary and provided housing, meals and transportation in lieu of proper hourly pay, failing minimum-wage, overtime and record-keeping rules; 17 workers received $150,000 — $75,000 in back wages and an equal amount in liquidated damages — and the employer paid a $10,000 civil penalty for willful violations.8
Since then the site records the July 2020 launch of online carry-out ordering (during the pandemic dining shutdowns) and little else.5
