Rosedale Bar-B-Q is Kansas City’s oldest continuously operating barbecue restaurant — opened July 4, 1934, by Anthony and Alda Rieke at 600 Southwest Blvd in the Rosedale neighborhood of Kansas City, Kansas. Rosedale predates the move of Arthur Bryant’s to its famous 18th & Brooklyn address by four years, placing it at the very foundation of Kansas City’s barbecue tradition.¹²

The restaurant has operated continuously under the Rieke family for more than 90 years, never changing address and never leaving the family’s hands. Founders Anthony and Alda Rieke passed the business to daughter Janelle Brown, who continues to operate the pits today alongside her own daughter Marisha Smith and son-in-law Bill — the third generation of the Rieke line to run the same restaurant in the same building in the same Rosedale neighborhood.¹
