Spalitto’s Pharmacy is an independent community pharmacy at 3801 Independence Avenue in Northeast Kansas City, serving the neighborhood since 1929 and now run by the third generation of the Spalitto family — Pete A. Spalitto, R.Ph., and pharmacy manager Anthony P. Spalitto. It is a full retail counter rather than a specialty operation: prescriptions, immunizations, medication therapy management, health screenings, diabetes care, pet prescriptions, and free local delivery, in a corridor where the nearest alternatives are chain counters.
Description
Spalitto’s Pharmacy is a community pharmacy on Independence Avenue in Northeast Kansas City. Its own about page states plainly that it has been serving the community since 1929, and lists a staff headed by Pete A. Spalitto, R.Ph., with Anthony P. Spalitto as pharmacy manager, alongside a pharmacist, technicians, and pharmacy interns.1 Under the federal NPI registry the business is recorded as Spalitto’s Pharmacy L.L.C. at 3801 Independence Ave, classified as a community/retail pharmacy — that is, an ordinary walk-in counter rather than a closed-door institutional operation.2
The pharmacy’s service list is broader than a dispensing window: medication adherence packaging, medication therapy management, medication synchronization, health screenings, a diabetes specialized care center, pet prescriptions, immunizations, and free prescription delivery within the local area.13 It has also offered free vaccine clinics to businesses, apartment buildings, and assisted living facilities on request.4
Northeast News, the neighborhood’s nonprofit paper, profiled the pharmacy in November 2025 as a community-focused, family-owned anchor on the Avenue, and noted that it has hosted naloxone (Narcan) vending boxes in partnership with local groups — a public-health role beyond retail.3

History
Spalitto’s own account places its founding in 1929, which makes it one of the longer-running retail businesses on Independence Avenue.1 A 2019 trade case study by ScriptPro, the Mission, Kansas pharmacy-automation firm, described the pharmacy as “70 years” in Kansas City with Pete Spalitto, R.Ph., as the third-generation owner, and documented the store running 55–60 percent of its prescription volume through an SP 200 dispensing robot — an automation step the owner credited with letting staff shift to follow-up calls with prescribers and floor work.5 The two tenure figures are not identical; the 1929 first-party founding date is the more precise claim and the trade summary’s round number is treated here as approximate.
The Spalitto surname is an old one in Kansas City’s Italian-American Northeast, and secondary summaries describe the first store opening at 535 Gillis Avenue in 1929 under the current owner’s grandfather, with later locations at 18th and Prospect and elsewhere on Independence Avenue. That lineage is plausible and consistent with the family’s own 1929 date, but it is not confirmed against a citable record here and is left marked “.6
Family continuity is documented in the present tense: a 2020-era notice on the pharmacy’s home page is signed jointly “Anthony & Pete Spalitto,” and the current staff page lists both.14
