Sterling Bowl has been rolling on 24 Highway in Sugar Creek since the building went up in 1959, and it is the rare business that answers the independence question itself: its lane-conditions page lists “Affiliation: Independent” in a table alongside the pinsetter model and the lane oil machine. That table is the tell. This is a league house that publishes its house oil pattern, runs Brunswick A-2 pinsetters, and prices a game at $4.75 — $2.25 if you bowl in one of its leagues. Friday and Saturday nights it turns into Cash-O-Rama, where coloured pins pay out cash jackpots.
Description
Sterling Bowl is a 24-lane bowling centre on 24 Highway in Sugar Creek, describing itself as “Your Full Service Bowling Center in Eastern Jackson County” and “Locally Owned and Operated Since 1959.”1
It is a league house first. It is USBC sanctioned, runs summer and fall leagues, publishes its in-house oil pattern, and prices league bowlers below every other category — $2.25 a game against a $4.75 standard rate.1 Its lane-conditions page reads like equipment documentation rather than marketing: synthetic lanes and approaches, Brunswick A-2 pinsetters, a Subway ball return, a Kegel Kustodian lane machine, and — in the same table — the single-word field “Affiliation: Independent.”1
The Friday-and-weekend business is Cash-O-Rama, a colour-pin format in which three coloured pins are seeded into each pinsetter and strikes or spares on specified combinations pay cash. Entry is $15 per person for three games plus one Super Jackpot entry, restricted to 18 and over, with game jackpot tickets sold four for a dollar until the seventh frame and payouts at 100 per cent of money collected.1 KCUR singled the format out in its 2024 metro bowling survey.2
Around that sit conventional discount nights: an all-you-can-bowl daytime special at $13, a $6-cover “50 Cent Mania” on Wednesdays with fifty-cent games and shoe rental, $1.50 Sunday Funday games, $2 Tuesdays, and two priced party packs.1

History
The building was erected in 1959 and the centre states that it has been locally owned and operated since that year.1 KCUR’s 2024 survey of metro bowling gives the same founding year and lane count and describes the house as locally owned and operated, singling out the Cash-O-Rama prize game.2
Beyond the founding year, no history was located. No owner or operating family is named anywhere — not on the site, not in press, not in any directory located this pass. The site carries no about page (/about/ returns HTTP 404, and the page sitemap confirms the site consists only of a front page, Cash-O-Rama, Lane Conditions, Contact, Pricing and Specials, and a stray WordPress sample page).1 Whether the business has had one owner since 1959 or several is unknown, and is not guessed at here.
