Description

Taste of Brazil is a Brazilian restaurant and bar at 21 East 3rd Street inside Kansas City’s historic City Market, in the River Market. It was established in 2013 by Marco Rabello and Cristian Maciel, both originally from São Paulo, who built the menu from their mothers’ recipes. The City Market’s own merchant listing describes the business as locally owned and names both founders.1

The kitchen’s anchors are hot sandwiches served on a French baguette with cheese, chimichurri and fries — the Carne Louca da Odete (shredded beef pot roast with garlic, onions, green olives and bell peppers), the Chicken Doido (marinated shredded chicken breast), the Alcatra da Cleuza (sliced sirloin) and the Porcão (mild Brazilian pork sausage). Alongside them are the Prato Feito platter of rice, beans, farofa, vinaigrette and a choice of meat; a family-recipe Brazilian lasagna; salgados including coxinha and risole; gluten-free pão de queijo and mandioca frita; an açaí bowl; and Brazilian desserts — brigadeiro, beijinho, churro and pudim de leite. Frozen cheese bread and bottled chimichurri are sold to take home. The bar runs caipirinhas, caipiroskas, caipifrutas, batidas and a house São Jorge cachaça drink alongside local, Brazilian and imported beer.2

Beyond the City Market storefront, the owners run a Taste of Brazil food truck and a catering operation with online ordering.2 In September 2025 KCUR reported that Rabello and Maciel were opening Taste of Brazil Express, a quick-serve kiosk with a limited menu of Brazilian street snacks — coxinhas, açaí bowls, pão de queijo, Brazilian sodas and tropical juices — in the Oak Park Mall food court at 11149 W 95th Street in Overland Park, on a five-year lease with four staff, targeting a late-September 2025 opening.3 That article did not address the City Market location’s status; the City Market listing and the operator’s own site both showed the City Market restaurant active on 2026-08-13.21
