ThaiThai Sushi Restaurant is a full-service Thai and sushi restaurant at 7106 NW Prairie View Road in Platte Woods, in the strip beside the old Kmart that has housed a run of Thai and Vietnamese kitchens — most recently Big Bowl Pho, Tasty Thai’s sister restaurant. It opened at the start of March 2026 under Patchara “Pat” Hompan, who also operates Pho La La in Lee’s Summit, and its long menu spans Thai curries, noodles and stir-fries, a full sushi bar of nigiri, sashimi and two dozen specialty rolls, and a short Vietnamese section of pho. Weekday lunch specials run 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Description
ThaiThai Sushi opened in the retail strip at 7106 NW Prairie View Road in Platte Woods — the “former Kmart complex,” in the Star reporter Joyce Smith’s description — a space that has been a Thai or Vietnamese restaurant for years.12 The restaurant’s own pitch is modest: “nourishing Thai dishes and hand-rolled sushi in a cozy and welcoming full-service atmosphere,” with sushi and Thai favorites prepared daily.3 When The Pitch listed it among six new openings on March 12, 2026, it noted that “no menu or details are available online yet” but that the sister restaurant, Pho La La in Lee’s Summit, “boasts high customer ratings.”2 The menu has since been published in full on the official site.4
It is a long menu. The Thai side covers seven coconut curries (panang, massaman, yellow, green, red, and pineapple and mango variants) plus a red-curry duck; seven stir-fried noodles (pad Thai, drunken noodles, pad see ew, sen mee, udon, lo mein and a house “Thai Thai Noodles” with crispy garlic); six fried rices including crab and a Hawaiian; fourteen stir-fries; noodle soups from khao soi and boat noodles to a duck noodle soup; and Isan-style salads — laab, nam khao tod, papaya salad, a mint beef salad.4 A “Specials” section carries a Thai-Chinese and Japanese lineup — orange, sesame and teriyaki chicken, a tonkatsu, and a cluster of crispy-pork-belly dishes (krapow moo krob, moo krob pad ped).4 The sushi bar lists a dozen nigiri, eleven sashimi, ten classic maki, three assorted plates and twenty-four chef’s rolls, several named for the region — a KC Sunset (California roll topped with cream cheese and smoked salmon), a New Mexico Roll with green-chili tempura, a New Orleans Roll with baked spicy crawfish.4 Four phos and a short Vietnamese-adjacent list round it out, and desserts run to mango sticky rice, fried banana and roti.4
Weekday lunch specials (11 a.m.–3 p.m.) at opening covered pad Thai, drunken noodles, the curries and orange chicken.1
Ownership and history
The owner is Patchara “Pat” Hompan, who, per Joyce Smith’s March 2, 2026 report, “also operates Lee’s Summit Pho La La, which launched in September” 2025.1 The official site’s footer names the operating entity as Lucky KC LLC.3 Pho La La, at 44A NE Sycamore St. in downtown Lee’s Summit, describes itself simply as “the spot for Vietnamese food in Lee’s Summit” and names no owner; third-party listings date the restaurant to 2018 and tie it to the Thai Spice / Jindaporn group, which — if accurate — would make Hompan’s September 2025 “launch” a change of ownership rather than a founding.56 That is unresolved and logged below.
Smith’s post gave the restaurant’s opening hours as tentatively 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m. Tuesday–Saturday and noon–8 p.m. Sunday; the site now publishes Tue–Thu to 9, Fri–Sat to 10, Sun noon–9.13 The Pitch counted it among six new openings on March 12.2 No further press has been found; the Star’s own coverage, if any, was not located.
The space
7106 NW Prairie View Rd. had been Big Bowl Pho, a Vietnamese sister restaurant to the long-running Tasty Thai next door; both closed when their owners retired, with Tasty Thai continuing in Liberty under the owners’ daughter.17 Kansas City Magazine’s January 2025 report on the adjacent J&K Ethiopian Restaurant — which took Tasty Thai’s former room at 7104 — said Tasty Thai had “relocated to 7106 N.W. Prairie View Road a couple of years ago,” so 7106 appears to have carried both the Tasty Thai and Big Bowl Pho names in its last years.8 (An earlier assignment note placed ThaiThai in the “former K&J Ethiopian space”; that is a confusion with J&K next door at 7104, which remains open.)8
