Corner Cafe is a three-location Northland/eastern-Jackson comfort diner founded May 15, 1983 by Ed and Kathi Rule in Riverside — a 40-seat breakfast-and-lunch counter that grew into the current family of rooms. First-party locations: Riverside (4541 NW Gateway Ave), Liberty (8301 N Flintlock Rd, Kansas City, MO 64158 — labeled Liberty on the official site), and Independence (4215 S Little Blue Pkwy). Scratch-leaning diner food, antique motorcycles in every dining room, and a 2026 Kansas City Favorites Gold Best Diner (fourth year running). Tier 1 independent, founder-family, KC-metro.12

Description

The Rules had never run a restaurant when they took the old “corner” in Riverside — a site that had been a restaurant for more than fifty years, locally remembered as Reese’s Cafe — and opened a weekday breakfast-and-lunch room. Daily specials went on the front windows and a chalkboard; the round table by the counter became the “Riverside Liar’s Club.” Weekends, dinner, and two expansions followed. A new purpose-built Riverside cafe opened December 6, 1994, using stones from the family farmhouse foundation for the fireplace and a windmill from Kathi’s family farm. Each dining room now displays an antique motorcycle, a friendship-gift lineage that started with customer Marvin Enochs’s 1926 Harley.1
