Typo’s Bookstore is an independent bookstore at 109 Main Street in downtown Parkville, Missouri, opened 30 May 2026 by journalist and children’s-book author Lisa McCormick. Parkville is Platte County, Missouri — not Parkville, Victoria (Australia), and not Kansas.
Description
Typo’s occupies 109 Main Street in historic downtown Parkville, Platte County, Missouri, on the north bank of the Missouri River in the Northland.12 First-party copy frames it as “a family-owned indie bookstore now open in historic downtown Parkville.”1 The Kansas City Star (Noelle Alviz-Gransee, 29 May 2026) photographed the storefront being prepped on 15 May 2026 and reported a Saturday 30 May grand opening at 10 a.m.2
The name is from McCormick’s first rescue dog, Typo the Newshound, a cocker spaniel in the Bookshop.org affiliate copy.13 McCormick told The Star the mix is roughly 60% kids / 40% adult, “majority children’s books that range from baby books to grade school,” and that the split can move with demand.2 The official site lists children’s books, bestselling adult titles, literary-themed gifts, and dog-themed treats and merchandise; it still uses future-tense “will offer” and a “Watch for these exciting offerings” list (storytimes, author visits, workshops, book clubs, baby showers, school book fairs, merch, online store) under a hero line that already says now open. Those are not converted into a live events calendar here.1
Online sales are routed off-site: Bookshop.org shop typosbookstore and Libro.fm typosbookstore.13 The homepage also invites title suggestions while “currently building our inventory.”1
This page is not the Park University Bookstore at 8700 NW River Park Drive; not any “Typo” type foundry or design shop; and not a bookstore in Parkville, Victoria.
Ownership and history
First-party About copy names Lisa McCormick as owner: “a national award-winning investigative journalist and author of 18 children’s books.”1 Bookshop.org repeats woman-owned / independent, the 18-book line, Park University alumna, and a start at the then-college-owned Platte County Gazette.3
The Star adds:2
- Kansas City native; father was an associate sports editor at The Star; grandmother was in the first graduating class of women journalists at the University of Missouri.
- Park University; downtown Parkville as the place she “fell in love with.”
- Late 2000s start on children’s books (supernatural subjects named: Bigfoot, alien abductions, haunted houses, Mothman), with a pointer to lisawademccormick.com.
- Broadcast investigative producer at FOX 4, then KSHB 41 until 2024, then freelance. She told the paper she would keep freelancing.
- Susan Buckles, described as a children’s literacy expert who has lived in Parkville 20 years and has a library background, helped source kids’ titles (nonfiction, history, sports, “quick lit” / early chapter books). Andrea Johnson is named as marketing manager. Both “wanted to buy into the business and be involved.” That is an approach, not a documented closing. They are not listed as co-owners here. “
Book-count conflict — printed, not merged. The shop site and Bookshop.org say 18 children’s books.13 The Star body writes “She has had 16 books published in total,” while the same article’s photo captions use the 18-children’s-books figure.2 16 and 18 are not collapsed.
Missouri Secretary of State entity name was not searched this pass. “
KSHB 41 (Lauren Schwentker, 14 May 2026) listed Typo’s among a downtown Main Street wave (Parkville Needlepoint House; Ave and Liv; Larkin Home) and wrote that Typo’s “is set to open May 30.”4
