Walnut Waters Bed & Breakfast is a three-room country inn on a wooded tract north of US 50 in Lone Jack, Jackson County, Missouri, run on-site by innkeepers Karl and Rebecca Darley.

Description

Walnut Waters occupies a log-style house at 928 NW 1971st Road in Lone Jack, a Jackson County town at US 50 and Route 150 on the southeast side of the Kansas City metro — not Johnson County, and not any out-of-state Lone Jack.12 The inn’s own copy places the house on 21 acres with a 2½-acre pond, wooded pathways, shoreline gazebos, catch-and-release fishing and paddleboats.314 Missouri Life (October 2025) repeats the 21-acre figure and adds “almost two miles of trails,” kayaking, a fire pit, and two pond gazebos.5 The Martin City Telegraph (30 June 2024) instead describes “a ranch home on 28 acres.”6 Those acreage figures are printed here and are not merged.

The candidate address 914 NW 1971st Rd does not appear on the inn’s site, the Visit Missouri listing, the Stay INN the Heartland member page, Missouri Life, or the Telegraph. Every located source uses 928. 914 is recorded as not findable.

Three guestrooms are listed on the booking page: The Willow Queen and The Sycamore Queen (from $209 / night) and The Walnut King (from $229 / night), each sleeping two, each with a private patio.7 The About page states that each room has a private bathroom, TV, Wi-Fi, and a covered or screened patio, and that a full homemade breakfast is served at 8:30 a.m., with a always-open refreshment bar of coffee, tea or hot chocolate; breakfast-to-go is offered if a guest must leave before 7 a.m.1 Check-in is 4:00–6:30 p.m.; check-out is 11:00 a.m.8

The inn also markets an event business: a 2,400-square-foot Event Hall for birthdays, showers, reunions and retreats, priced at $500 without kitchen / $600 with kitchen access on the events page, plus private murder-mystery dinners for groups of 12 or more.9 The weddings page says the property specialises in micro-weddings and elopements but “can accommodate weddings up to 100 attendees.”10 The Telegraph puts Event Hall occupancy at 50 to 60 people.6 Those two capacity figures conflict and are not reconciled here.

The house is adults-only on the Visit Missouri listing and in Missouri Life, with older children allowed only in special circumstances; pets are not accommodated except by prior arrangement on the inn’s own policies page.258

Walnut Waters is a listed lodging on Visit Missouri (listing last modified 17 February 2026) and a member property of Stay INN the Heartland, which inspects and certifies independent inns.245

Ownership and history

The inn’s About page names the onsite innkeepers as Karl Darley and Rebecca Darley. Karl is described as a retired carpenter with a passion for woodworking and woodcarving; Rebecca as a registered nurse whose work ran from the ER to school nursing. The page states they are originally from Joliet, Illinois, have seven children and eighteen grandchildren, and searched the country for a property before settling at Lone Jack.1

A first-person VoyageKC interview with Rebecca Darley, published 21 October 2025, dates the search to 2015 and says they toured properties for three years before finding the Lone Jack tract. The same interview states they had hoped to buy an already-running inn and instead renovated a house and built a website from scratch, and that “after 7 years now we feel like old pros.”11 Counting back from that October 2025 interview lands around 2018. Kathy Feist’s Martin City Telegraph profile of 30 June 2024 independently uses the phrase “in the six years that the Darley’s have been inn keepers,” which also lands around 2018.6 Neither piece publishes a calendar opening date. “ — exact month and year the first paying guest stayed.

The Telegraph adds that the property came with a woodshop for Karl and an 1,100-square-foot apartment on the west wing for the couple, and that the three guest rooms sit on the opposite wing, each with its own patio walkout. It describes a 28-foot stone hearth as the showpiece of the main house, and an event space “up a short hill” with polished cement floors that the Darleys had recently completed as of June 2024.6 Missouri Life locates the couple on “the right side of the house” and the guest game room on the left, and quotes Rebecca on a three-night stay that ended in a vow renewal.5

Legal entity name, Missouri Secretary of State filing, and Jackson County parcel ownership were not searched this pass (SOS is Cloudflare-blocked). “

This page is not the Walnut Inn of Weston, not any Walnut Creek or Walnut Valley namesake, and not a chain.
