Weston Steamboat Inn is a three-suite bed-and-breakfast at 514 Summer Street in Weston, Missouri, run by innkeepers Rob and Glenna Nance in an 1845 Federal-style brick house overlooking the town’s Main Street. The Nances began rebuilding the derelict house in 2014 and now operate it as an owner-run inn serving breakfast to guests.

Description

Weston Steamboat Inn is an owner-run bed-and-breakfast in Weston, Missouri, a preserved nineteenth-century Missouri River town in Platte County. The inn occupies an 1845 brick house on Summer Street, a few blocks off Main Street and above the town’s commercial core, and offers three suites with breakfast.12

Rob and Glenna Nance are the innkeepers. Both had managed a bed-and-breakfast in the area before taking on this house, and the inn presents itself explicitly around their hosting rather than around a brand.1 The property is small enough that all three suites can be booked together, and it sits within walking distance of Weston’s Main Street businesses.

Weston’s lodging economy is unusually dense for a town its size — the local chamber lists more than a dozen inns, guest houses and farm stays — and Steamboat Inn is one of the historic-house entries in that set.2

Goods and services

  • Lodging — three suites in the main house1
  • Breakfast served to guests, included with the stay1
  • Proximity marketing to Weston’s Main Street shops, wineries and distillery “ — commonly stated but not confirmed against a specific first-party page this pass

History

The building. The house dates to 1845 and is brick, in the Federal manner. Its early chain of ownership is documented on the inn’s own history page as: Captain Murphy, first owner of the property in 1842; construction in 1845 by George Belt; then Captain Traver, Julius Rumpel, and the Bless family, after which the house fell into disrepair.1 The Weston Chamber of Commerce lodging page gives a different attribution — “built in 1845 by steamboat Captain R.L. Traver.”2 These two accounts conflict on who built the house; both are recorded here and neither is treated as settled. The 1845 date is common to both.

Weston’s central district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1972 as the Weston Historic District, reference number 72000727, covering roughly 16 full blocks and parts of 8 more.3 Whether 514 Summer Street falls inside the district boundary and counts as a contributing property has not been established.

The business. The inn is a recent business in an old house. Rob and Glenna Nance began rebuilding the property in 2014, retaining the original brick structure and much of the woodwork, and now run it as a three-suite inn.1 The 1845 date belongs to the building; the business dates from the Nances’ renovation, and no earlier lodging use of this house is documented in the sources consulted.
