History
Schlagle opened as part of a pair with J. C. Harmon High School. Wikipedia, citing O. L. Plucker’s 1987 district history, says the new attendance zone was carved from Washington and Wyandotte areas, while a large part of the old Wyandotte zone north of Quindaro Boulevard and east to 12th Street was attached to Washington. Those boundary changes, the article states, increased the Black share at Washington, reduced it at Wyandotte, and established an integrated student body at Schlagle.1
That desegregation-by-boundary claim rests on a single district-history pamphlet and is carried here as attributed, not independently re-derived.
Athletics and band
Team state titles cited from the KSHSAA records book: 5A boys basketball, 1993 and 1995. Deborah Crawford holds the 4A girls high-jump record of 5’6” (1977). The Marching Stallions use a high-step southern style and, per Wikipedia, perform annually at the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament at t-mobile-center.1
Wikipedia’s alumni list (including several living public figures) is tagged as possibly unverifiable; this page does not reproduce it.
