Hotel Kansas City occupies the historic Kansas City Club Building, a 14-story Late Gothic Revival tower at 1228 Baltimore Avenue in downtown Kansas City, Missouri.1 Built 1918–1922 as the clubhouse of the private Kansas City Club, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002 (NRIS 02001401), the building was converted to a hotel in 2020 after earlier reuse as banquet space and loft apartments.1

The structure is distinct from other downtown hotels already in the Wiki — Hotel President, Hotel Phillips, Muehlebach Hotel, and Savoy Hotel — and from the still-separate Kansas City Club social organization (which left this building in 2001).1
Kansas City Club era (1922–2001)
The Kansas City Club commissioned the building as its clubhouse; it served that purpose from completion until 2001, when the club merged with a smaller nearby club and vacated the tower.1 Full social history of the Club (membership, politics, dining culture) is only lightly treated on the National Register stub and is not expanded here.
Architects Smith, Rea and Lovitt also appear on other downtown civic and commercial work of the same generation (including, elsewhere in this vault’s research trail, the 1919 American Hereford Association building at 300 W 11th).1
Adaptive reuse (2002–2019)
In 2002 a developer purchased and renovated the building after NRHP listing. Floors 1–6 became a banquet venue branded The Clubhouse on Baltimore; floors 7–15 (nine floors in the Wikipedia summary) became loft apartments as The Clubhouse Lofts.1
Hotel conversion (2020–)
In 2020 the building was converted to Hotel Kansas City, an operating downtown hotel at the historic Baltimore Avenue address.1 Official site: https://hotelkc.com/.[^wiki]
