The Fountain Archive — Index

The Fountain Archive is the KS.City Wiki’s flagship Y1 product — an effort to document and count every fountain in Kansas City, public and private. This page is the browsable index to every fountain entry: the named civic and memorial fountains, the Country Club Plaza collection, the Crown Center group, and the neighborhood and regional clusters across the metro. Kansas City is widely known as the City of Fountains.

On the “second only to Rome” claim: Kansas City is often described as having more fountains than any city in the world except Rome. This claim is repeated across generations of civic and tourism material, but it is methodologically inconsistent (counts mix public, private, and decorative water features; thresholds vary) and has no verified comparative census behind it. “ — treat it as civic lore, not an established fact, per the Fountain-Archive-Product-Spec caution. The working figure for KC is “more than 200 documented fountains, and counting,” pending archive completeness.

• Mill Creek Park Fountain (formerly J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain) — KC’s most-photographed fountain; Gréber, 1910; installed 1960
• Neptune Fountain — bronze, installed 1953

This index is maintained as new fountain entries are drafted. Coverage is not yet complete — the Fountain Archive’s goal is to document and count every fountain in the metro, public and private. Gaps, smaller named basins, and private/residential fountains are still being added. Many individual entries carry “ flags on sculptor, date, or material pending deeper sourcing (the standard reference is Sherry Piland & Ellen J. Uguccioni, Fountains of Kansas City: A History and Love Affair, City of Fountains Foundation, 1985).
