History

The post office called Oak Grove has operated since 1840, though the community was originally known as Lickskillet.1 Formal platting waited until 1878 in the railroad-era reorganization of eastern Jackson County towns; incorporation followed in 1881.1 The name commemorates oak trees at the original site.1

Like Grain Valley and Blue Springs, Oak Grove is now an eastern-metro residential and commercial center on the I-70 corridor approaches.1
