Piper is a semi-rural neighborhood in western Wyandotte County, part of Kansas City, Kansas. Laid out as a village in 1888 and annexed into Kansas City, Kansas, in 1991, it is best known today for Piper USD 203, a small school district that in 2011 became the first in the United States to receive Google Fiber connectivity to its schools.1

History
Piper was first laid out as a village in 1888, and its post office opened the same year, remaining in service until it was discontinued in 1971. The community sat as an unincorporated, semi-rural stretch of western Wyandotte County until annexation into Kansas City, Kansas, in 1991 — one of the last major western pushes of the consolidated Unified Government’s footprint into open farmland.1
Schools
Piper USD 203 operates five facilities — Piper High School, Piper Middle School, Piper Prairie Elementary, Piper Creek Elementary, and an Early Childhood Center. The district is unusually small: Wyandotte County contains three other public districts (Kansas City USD 500, Bonner Springs–Edwardsville USD 204, Turner USD 202), so USD 203 serves only the Piper neighborhood.1
Piper’s schools were the first in the United States to receive Google Fiber-grade bandwidth, part of the wider Kansas City Google Fiber launch of the early 2010s.1 Actor Eric Stonestreet — later of Modern Family — attended Piper High School.1
