a classic French bistro in Brookside’s Crestwood Shops, opened in 2001 by Aix-en-Provence-born chef Emmanuel Langlade and his wife Megan; Tier 1 as a quarter-century owner-operated KC institution.

Description

Aixois is a classic French bistro located in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood, just south of the Country Club Plaza, within the Crestwood Shops district along the Trolley Trail.12 The restaurant pairs an intimate dining room with what local listings repeatedly call one of the city’s best outdoor patios, and operates as an all-day French establishment — coffee bar, breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch.13

Chef-owner Emmanuel Langlade, a native of Aix-en-Provence, builds the menu around fresh, organic, seasonal ingredients executed with traditional French technique, working with area farmers, butchers, and bakers to bring local product into the cooking.24 Frequently praised dishes include the grilled Angus hanger steak and the chocolate mousse, alongside the French breakfast and brunch service.35

As of 2026 the bistro remains open, with current posted hours running roughly 7:00 am to 9:00–10:00 pm daily and a Sunday brunch service; its Yelp listing was updated in May 2026 with hundreds of reviews.351

Ownership and history

Aixois was opened in 2001 by Emmanuel Langlade, a native of Aix-en-Provence in southern France, together with his wife Megan Langlade.24 The restaurant’s name derives from “Aixois,” the demonym for a resident of Aix-en-Provence. Chef Langlade is profiled among “KC Originals” for bringing authentic Provençal-rooted French cuisine to Kansas City.4

The original — and now sole — location sits in the Crestwood Shops at 55th Street in Brookside/Crestwood, KCMO.61 A second location opened in June 2024 at Park Place in Leawood, Kansas (11570 Ash St), but that location permanently closed in October 2025 after roughly a year and a half; the Missouri original remains open and the Leawood listing was removed from the company website.67 Reporting confirms: “Owners Emmanuel and Megan Langlade opened Aixois’ original location in Kansas City, Missouri’s Crestwood neighborhood in 2001. (That location remains open.)”6
