Alma Mader Brewing is a craft brewery and taproom occupying a low-slung brick building at 2635 Southwest Blvd in Kansas City, Missouri, on the Southwest Boulevard corridor near the Crossroads and West Side.53 The brewery is built around a hop-forward house style, producing a rotating range of pale ales, New England and West Coast IPAs, and an array of lagers — American, Mexican-, Czech-, and Japanese-style — alongside barrel-aged offerings.51 Its brand line is “Made with more.”5

Founder Nick Mader, a Kansas City native, returned to his hometown to open the brewery after a career at well-regarded craft breweries elsewhere; he chose the Southwest Boulevard location in part because the drive up the Boulevard evoked his first brewing job at Boulevard Brewing Co.31 The taproom is generally described as warm, clean, and unpretentious, with friendly service and pints typically around $6–$7; it is card-only.6

Alma Mader Brewing was founded by Nick Mader, who serves as Founder and Director of Brewing.28 Mader earned a finance degree from the University of Missouri–Kansas City, then pursued brewing — getting his start at Boulevard Brewing Co. in Kansas City before working at Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project in Denver and Fremont Brewing Co. in Seattle, and studying at the International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland.32 He signed the lease on the Southwest Boulevard building in April 2018 and opened the brewery to the public in 2019.39 The business is independently owned and owner-operated, with no corporate parent identified.28
