Amigos sits at the corner of South 47th Street and Shawnee Drive in Turner, the southwestern KCK district wedged between I-635 and the Johnson County line — “just a few minutes from Merriam Town Center,” as the restaurant puts it, which is why a good share of its reviewers come over from Mission and Merriam.12 The room is big: Yelp reviewers quoted on the site describe “a large seating area & great service,” “very spacious and clean,” and rooms that can be reserved for large parties; the site itself sells “tailored events for all occasions.”2 Televisions and the bar make it a sports bar by the restaurant’s own description — “the go-to place for neighborhood families celebrating a birthday or a group of friends coming in to watch a game.”1

The menu is Mexican-American in the KC/Kansas style, and the deep-fried taco is the founding item. The restaurant’s “About” page tells the founding as a parable rather than a history: “Like most good stories, ours starts with a taco — a deep fried taco. And a margarita. Or two. At Amigos Grill & Cantina, we started with tacos and then built a place where we could serve them — and so much more.”1 No owner, family or chef is named anywhere on the site, in tourism listings, or in press found for this pass; the site is a SpotHopper template and the contact is a Gmail address.21 Yelp’s listing gives “Established in 2012,” which is consistent with the Tripadvisor listing’s numbering and with Nextdoor naming it a “Neighborhood Favorite” every year from 2017 to 2024, but has not been confirmed by a first-party source.67 A Yelp reviewer quoted on the site calls it “my GoTo FAVORITE Mexican Cantina for over 15 years,” which would push the concept back before 2012 — possibly under an earlier name or ownership.2
