Amruta's Vilas on Wheels

Amruta’s Vilas on Wheels is a South Indian tiffin-and-Indo-Chinese food van that lives in the parking lot of the Flash Petro gas station on West 135th Street in Olathe and serves until midnight every night. Dosas (plain, masala, ghee roast, egg, Nellore karam), idly, poori with chicken curry, Andhra-style punugulu and Mysore bonda, and “street style” fried rice and noodles — most of it under $10, with allam (ginger) chai for a dollar. Kansas City Magazine and KCUR both put it on their 2025 Indian-food lists.

Description

The van sits in the lot of Flash Petro, a Phillips 66 station at 16620 W 135th Street in Olathe, near the Mur-Len Road intersection; Kansas City Magazine and KCUR both describe it as “posted up at the Flash Petro gas station.”¹²³ The official site’s own contact page gives the same 16620 address, while the magazine and delivery apps print 16610 — the van, not the numbering, is the landmark.⁴²

The menu is short and specifically Telugu in its vocabulary: “Bezawada” punugulu (Vijayawada-style fried batter puffs), chitti gaarelu (small vadas), Mysore bonda, ghee karam idly, a Nellore karam dosa, and allam chai.⁵ Dosas run from a $6.99 plain to a $10.99 dosa with chicken curry; poori comes with chicken curry or Bombay chutney; uttapam is $8.99.⁵ The “Street Eats” side is the Indo-Chinese half of the concept — chicken, double-egg and gobi (cauliflower) fried rice and noodles, $9.99–11.99.⁵ The site frames the pairing as a deliberate fusion: South Indian tiffins “and authentic Chinese cuisine,” sambhar and vadas alongside schezwan noodles and spring rolls.⁶⁷

Tyler Shane, Kansas City Magazine’s food editor, listed it in the magazine’s October 2025 “No Passport Required” survey of immigrant-run food in the metro (masala dosa pictured; “pani puri, chicken fried rice, green chili-stuffed mirchi and more until midnight every day of the week”) and again in November 2025 among his favorite Indian and South Asian dishes, for a cheesy dosa: “It’s like an Indian crepe, and is so comforting and delicious, you won’t be able to stop eating it.”²⁸ He repeated the recommendation on KCUR’s Up to Date Indian-restaurant episode the same month.³

Ownership and history

The operator is not named on the site, on social media captions we could retrieve, or in press. The site’s copyright is 2026 and its “About” page speaks of a mission “to create a unique dining experience that brings people together over delicious, wholesome meals,” with emphasis on traditional preparation, “organic products” and generous portions.⁶⁷ A separate “Amruta Vilas Indian Cafe” website (amrutavilas.com) exists; whether it is the same operator, a planned brick-and-mortar, or an unrelated business elsewhere is unresolved.⁹

Yelp lists the business as “Amruta Villas on Wheels” in its food-truck category with listing activity through July 2026.¹⁰
