Description

Birdies is an independent lingerie shop in the West Crossroads of Kansas City, Missouri that specializes in smaller, independent woman-owned designers from around the world and in hard-to-find sizes — spanning roughly a 28A to a 44I bra size.12 The boutique carries lingerie, bras, undergarments, hosiery, and swim, alongside owner Peregrine Honig’s own genderless line, All Is Fair in Love and Wear.12 Shopping is walk-in or by appointment, with a fitting-focused, personal-service model.1

Beyond merchandise, Birdies reads as an extension of Honig’s art practice — the shop began as an art installation and has long doubled as a curated, design-forward retail environment, making it one of the Crossroads’ distinctive creative-led storefronts.23

Ownership and history

Birdies was founded in 2003 by contemporary artist Peregrine Honig together with Alexis Burggrabe.23 By Honig’s account, Birdies began as a roughly 100-square-foot art installation in the West Crossroads before expanding into the adjacent space around 2008.3 The business has remained on West 18th Street throughout, with Honig stating that “West 18th Street is so much a part of our identity.”3

In spring 2026, Birdies relocated within the neighborhood to an expanded corner storefront at 18th & Baltimore — moving from roughly 600 square feet to about 2,000 square feet, with five dressing rooms (three ADA-compliant), supported in part by a City of Kansas City “Open Doors!” program grant. Press reported a soft opening targeted for May 1, 2026, coinciding with Crossroads First Fridays; the official site now lists the store at 1800 Baltimore Ave, 64108.13

Peregrine Honig is a nationally exhibited Kansas City-based artist; her dual identity as working artist and boutique owner is the throughline of Birdies’ brand and longevity in the Crossroads.

Disputes

None at this time. (Address note: the March 2026 article gave the new corner address as 101 W. 18th St. while the official site lists 1800 Baltimore Ave; these describe the same 18th & Baltimore corner building — a labeling difference, not a dispute. The official-site Baltimore Ave value is used for the pin.)
