This Kansas City business has closed. KS.City keeps its page on the record.
In memoriam — Bridgers KC. A hip-hop-themed Westport nightclub at 504 Westport Road, opened by Brett Allred around 2016 (under earlier names) and operating as Bridger’s until it closed in late January / February 2024. Billed at the time as a temporary closure for renovation, the space did not reopen as Bridgers — it was reborn on Valentine’s Day 2025 as Q KC, a queer bar co-owned by Lance Pierce and Brett Allred. This record honors a nightlife room in one of Westport’s oldest standing buildings.123
Description
Bridgers KC — styled Bridger’s — was a hip-hop-themed nightclub at 504 Westport Road in the heart of Kansas City’s westport entertainment district. It was one of several Westport venues operated by hospitality owner Brett Allred, whose other rooms include Lotus (a Latin nightclub), Johnny Kaw’s Yard Bar (sports-oriented), and Bar Rec (a game bar that opened in fall 2023).1
The club took its name from the building’s deep frontier history: 504 Westport Road sits on the site of frontier scout Jim Bridger’s 1860s outfitting store, making it one of Westport’s oldest standing structures. Over the decades the address hosted a long lineage of businesses — H&M Market in the 1950s–60s, Stanford & Sons restaurant and comedy club, Johnny Dare’s, the Gusto Lounge, and Johnny Kaw’s — before becoming Bridger’s.23
Ownership and history
The room was opened by Brett Allred around 2016, initially branded Johnny Kaw’s Bar & Grill before being rebranded as the hip-hop nightclub Bridger’s.1 (The BAR-007 seed record lists an opening of ~2018; this likely reflects the Bridger’s rebrand rather than Allred’s original opening of the space.) The venue ran for roughly eight years across its various identities at the address.1
Closure
Bridger’s closed in late January 2024, with the decision reported in early February 2024. At the time, Allred framed it as a temporary closure: “We need to invest and update the space to be competitive. We are planning to reopen this summer but no solid plans yet.”1
The space did not reopen as Bridgers. Instead, it became the home of Q KC (Q Kansas City), a community-driven queer bar co-owned by Lance Pierce and Brett Allred. Pierce had run the Queer Bar Takeover pop-up program for roughly eight years — rotating monthly events that transformed traditionally straight bars into welcoming queer spaces — and Q KC made that concept permanent. After a planned 2024 timeline, Q KC held its grand opening on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2025 (themed “Love is the Most Radical Act of All”), with a ribbon-cutting attended by Mayor Quinton Lucas.2456
Legacy
Bridgers KC closed the hip-hop chapter of a Westport address that has anchored Kansas City nightlife and commerce across three centuries — from Jim Bridger’s frontier outfitting store, through mid-century markets and comedy clubs, to a string of late-night rooms. Its closure was not an ending so much as a handoff: the same operator partnered to reopen the room as Q KC, giving Westport a dedicated queer nightlife and community space and keeping one of the district’s oldest buildings in active use.235
