Chick Bo Bao is a Korean-style fried chicken, Korean corn dog, mochi doughnut and boba tea counter at 10143 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64114, on an endcap of the Shops at Willow Creek in south Kansas City. It occupies a former Dunkin’ Donuts space with a drive-thru, leased in November and built out through the spring of 2026 by Geng Lin, who also opened Grand Wok in Shawnee in 2009. It is the first Kansas City-metro location of a name Lin licensed from a two-store Omaha operation, under an agreement he says lets him open as many Kansas and Missouri locations as he likes. Tier 1 — owner-operated by a metro restaurateur; the Omaha tie is a brand licence, not a parent company.123
Description
Chick Bo Bao sits on an endcap of the Shops at Willow Creek at 10143 Wornall Road, the stretch of Wornall between Red Bridge Road and Interstate 435 in south Kansas City. The space was a Dunkin’ Donuts; Lin said Dunkin’ removed nearly everything except a counter and a walk-in cooler, leaving him a substantial build-out after signing the lease in November.1
The draw was practical rather than sentimental: high traffic on Wornall, proximity to I-435 and several car dealerships, and an existing drive-thru. Lin looked at the Dunkin’ space first, checked other sites, and came back to it. He has said he wants second-generation restaurant spaces of roughly 2,000 square feet for any further locations.1
The format is counter and drive-thru quick service. Korean fried chicken is served with sauce on the side rather than tossed, across a stated selection of about a dozen sauces including soy garlic, gangnam spicy, and a “Korean Red Devil” sauce that Lin himself calls too spicy. Alongside the chicken run build-your-own Korean corn dogs, mochi doughnuts, egg rolls, crab rangoon, fries, ice cream, and an extensive boba and smoothie list.13
The restaurant’s own framing is plainer: “We love sharing delicious, comforting food with others. Bo Bao is flavorful, satisfying, and fun to eat,” with the aim of “a welcoming place where families and friends can come together.”2
On the name. The business trades as Chick Bo Bao — that is the spelling on its own website and on its own ordering page.23 The Martin City Telegraph headline that surfaced this business reads “Chicken Bo-Bao,” but the body of the same article uses “Chick Bo-Bao” throughout.1 The hyphenated Chick Bo-Bao is the form the local press and the Omaha operation use; the unhyphenated Chick Bo Bao is the form the Kansas City business uses itself. Both are recorded in aliases:; the page follows first-party usage. “Chicken Bo-Bao” appears to be a headline slip and is retained as an alias only because it is the form under which the business was first indexed.
Ownership and history
Owner: Geng Lin. Lin was a customer before he was an operator — he had several regular orders at a friend’s Chick Bo-Bao shop in Omaha: the Korean fried chicken with teriyaki sauce or honey mustard, the Korean hot dogs, the banana mango smoothie, and sometimes the mochi doughnuts and bubble tea. His read on the market was that this menu, while already popular at several suburban restaurants in the metro, was missing from south Kansas City.1
Lin is not new to the metro’s restaurant trade. He opened Grand Wok at 15810 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee in 2009, a full-service restaurant until the COVID-19 pandemic and now mostly quick-serve to-go with some seating.1
The Omaha relationship is a licence, and the page records it as such rather than resolving it. There are two Chick Bo-Bao locations in Omaha — as the Martin City Telegraph put it, “not enough to be called a chain.” Lin says his licensing agreement lets him open as many locations as he likes in Kansas and Missouri. The Omaha founder could not be reached by the reporting outlet, and the founder’s identity, the corporate structure behind the Omaha stores, and the exact terms of Lin’s agreement are all.1 No Missouri entity filing for the Kansas City business was retrieved this pass.
The Kansas City domain chickbobaokcmo.com was registered 2026-01-13 through Wix, between the November lease signing and the spring build-out, and carries a contact address of lingeng2011@gmail.com — consistent with Lin’s ownership rather than with an SEO-generated lookalike site.42
