Kaufman’s room is the working-comic’s club model executed in KC: touring national headliners Thursday–Sunday, a genuine open mic for the local scene, membership passes, private events, and a kitchen — the operational playbook he absorbed at Flappers in Burbank applied to his hometown.23 He deliberately built a roughly 250-seat house, betting KC audiences would turn out for a substantial room rather than a small one.2 Before the club, Kaufman produced a mock late-night program, “Kauf Drops,” in KC.2 His booking philosophy is explicit: “The clubs that try to prove themselves as funny, instead of trying to get rich out of the gate, are the ones that are still successful.”2

The opening filled a gap: Westport’s long-running Stanford & Sons had closed the year before, following the deaths of owners Craig and Jeff Glazer.2
