Cornflower Baked Goods is Megan and Colby Garrelts’ dedicated bakery at Mission Farms in Leawood — opened June 2026, next door to their Rye Leawood restaurant. Megan Garrelts is a James Beard Award semifinalist for Outstanding Pastry Chef; Colby Garrelts is a James Beard Award winner who grew up in Leawood. After 10+ years of turning away corporate pie and cinnamon roll orders at Rye, they finally gave the baked goods their own room. Named for a prairie wildflower that was part of Megan’s wedding bouquet.

Description

Cornflower Baked Goods is the neighborhood bakery Megan Garrelts spent over a decade dreaming about. After building Rye — the Midwestern restaurant she and husband Colby co-own in Leawood and Waldo — into one of Kansas City’s most acclaimed dining rooms, Megan found that the pastry side of the kitchen kept outgrowing its walls. Corporate orders for pies and cinnamon rolls regularly had to be turned away for lack of space. When the storefront directly next to Rye Leawood opened at Mission Farms, the Garrelts converted it into a dedicated baking operation. The name came from a prairie wildflower that was part of Megan’s wedding bouquet and felt, she said, like a perfect fit — both for the Kansas Prairie and for a personal new chapter. Coffee is from Onyx Coffee Lab. The pastry case mixes familiar Rye favorites with new creations Megan hasn’t had the kitchen space to explore before.
