Goat Hill Coffee & Soda is a Westside café at 811 W 17th St serving Post Coffee Co. roasts alongside rotating Little Freshie-recipe sodas. Opened September 2016 in the space vacated by Little Freshie, it is owned and operated by Tanner Stevens and Levi Holland — the same KC-area coffee operators behind Post Coffee Co. (Lee’s Summit), with Stevens also the founder of Quay Coffee in the River Market. Its name nods to “Goat Hill,” the historic Westside nickname tied to the Pendergast-era political wards.
Description
Goat Hill Coffee & Soda is a small Westside café that pairs a focused specialty-coffee program with a rotating menu of house sodas. The coffee side pours Post Coffee Co. roasts — espresso, drip, americano, latte, mocha, and cortado — pulled on a La Marzocco espresso bar.1 The “soda” half of the name is the shop’s signature: when Goat Hill opened it inherited the syrup recipes of Little Freshie, the soda-and-popsicle shop that previously occupied the space, and continues to rotate flavors such as green tea pear, raspberry rose, fig vanilla, and root beer.23
Food is kept light, sourced from other KC-area makers — pastries from Heirloom Bakery and donuts from Hana’s in Kansas City, Kansas.2 The café occupies a compact storefront at 811 W 17th St on the Westside and operates daily.4
Ownership and history
Goat Hill opened in September 2016 in the 811 W 17th St space that Little Freshie — founded by Lindsay Laricks — vacated when it left the Westside.23 Rather than abandon the location’s soda identity, the incoming operators licensed/continued Little Freshie’s soda recipes and added a Post Coffee program, giving the shop its “Coffee & Soda” dual concept.23
| Period | Operator |
|---|---|
| → 2016 | Little Freshie (Lindsay Laricks) — prior tenant, soda/popsicle shop |
| Sept 2016 → present | Goat Hill Coffee & Soda — Tanner Stevens & Levi Holland |
Owners Tanner Stevens and Levi Holland also own Post Coffee Co. in Lee’s Summit, which supplies all of Goat Hill’s coffee; Goat Hill is presented on Post’s own site as “A Post Coffee Company Cafe.”43 Stevens additionally founded Quay Coffee in the River Market, making him an established figure in the KC coffee scene.23 All ownership ties are to KC-metro operators — there is no out-of-market or national parent.
