Golden & Pine was an ethically minded home decor, furniture, and gift boutique founded by Kansas City native Stephanie Agne in 2016. It started in Brookside, then relocated and expanded into a roughly 3,500-square-foot storefront at 19 On The Mall in The Shops of Prairie Village in 2018. The shop permanently closed in September 2023 after eight years, as Agne shifted her focus to interior design (now operating Retreat Interior Design Studio).123

Description

Golden & Pine was a home furnishings and gift boutique that positioned itself around ethical sourcing — artisan, handmade, and fairly produced goods — with a mission of making those wares accessible to everyday shoppers rather than only high-end buyers.23 After relocating to The Shops of Prairie Village in 2018, the shop tripled its footprint to roughly 3,500 square feet, expanding from primarily decor and “gifty” items into furniture and custom rugs while keeping smaller pick-up gifts for shoppers on the go.3 Inventory blended internationally sourced artisan pieces with goods from the Kansas City area.1

Ownership and history

The shop was founded and owned throughout its life by Stephanie Agne.12 Agne did not come from a formal design background — she studied nutrition science and worked as a registered dietitian for roughly a decade, with home and interior design as an all-consuming hobby (design magazines, HGTV, design blogs) before turning it into a business.2

Golden & Pine opened in 2016 in Kansas City’s Brookside neighborhood.23 In 2018 Agne moved the store to 19 On The Mall in The Shops of Prairie Village (Prairie Village, KS 66208), tripling her retail space to about 3,500 square feet and broadening the product line to include furniture and custom rugs.13

In September 2023 Agne announced the shop would close, ending an eight-year run, citing a desire to “do a little bit less” personally and to concentrate on interior design.1 She subsequently launched/continued Retreat Interior Design Studio.1 Agne is described as a Kansas City–rooted business owner; precise birthplace/childhood-municipality details are.
