Description
Grand Street is a modern-American (New American) restaurant in the heart of the Country Club Plaza, describing itself as offering “Modern American Cuisine & Dining.”2 Menu items include Beef Wellington, pan-seared scallops, cornmeal-crusted trout, and grilled salmon, and the restaurant is a noted Sunday brunch destination.24 It occupies an upscale, remodeled dining room at 4740 Grand Avenue and is a long-running Plaza fixture, marketing itself as “a Kansas City favorite for its modern American cuisine” for over two decades.2
Ownership and history
Grand Street Cafe opened on the Country Club Plaza in 1991.1 It was created as one of the early concepts under the PB&J Restaurants group, the prolific Kansas City multi-concept operator founded by Paul Khoury in 1987 (other concepts included Coyote Grill, Yahooz, Paulo & Bill, Newport Grill, and YaYas).3 PB&J sold its flagship Grand Street Café in 2003, after which it became an independent, family-owned and operated restaurant.3
The restaurant is owned and operated by Rick and Kristi Ghilardi.1 In 2013, after roughly 22 years on the Plaza, the Ghilardis brought the Grand Street concept to Lenexa, Kansas (a separate location at 8815 Renner Blvd, in Lenexa City Center).15
