HomeGrown is a fast-growing breakfast, brunch, and lunch “daytime eatery” concept founded in Wichita, Kansas in 2017 by Jon and Lauren Rolph and owned by the Wichita-based Thrive Restaurant Group. It operates roughly five Kansas City-metro locations — its flagship-by-tenure KC site at 338 W 63rd St in Brookside (opened summer 2021) plus Power & Light, Leawood, Merriam, and Liberty — within a multi-state footprint. Because the brand is founded, headquartered, and corporately owned outside the KC metro, it is classified Tier 3.
Description
HomeGrown (stylized “HomeGrown,” also marketed as HomeGrown Kitchen) is a breakfast, brunch, and lunch “daytime eatery” concept serving scratch-made pastries, cage-free eggs, fresh-squeezed orange juice, and brunch cocktails such as mimosas and Bloody Marys, with an emphasis on locally-sourced ingredients.12 The brand built its identity around a stated “Cultivate Kindness” mission, including community-engagement programs such as a children’s “Kindness Mailbox.”3
The Kansas City metro flagship — by tenure the brand’s first KC-area location — sits at 338 W 63rd St in Brookside, in the former Avenues Bistro space, opening in summer 2021.34 HomeGrown has since expanded across the KC metro to roughly five locations: Brookside, the Power & Light District (101 E 13th St, downtown Kansas City, MO), Leawood, Merriam, and Liberty.56
Ownership and history
HomeGrown was founded in May 2017 in Wichita, Kansas by Jon and Lauren Rolph.3 Jon Rolph is the owner and founder of the Thrive Restaurant Group (headquartered at 1877 N Rock Rd, Wichita, KS), the multi-brand restaurant company that owns and operates HomeGrown.27 Thrive’s portfolio also includes franchised/operated units of Applebee’s, Qdoba, Modern Market Eatery, and Carlos O’Kelly’s — the Mexican-restaurant chain that Jon Rolph’s father and uncle co-founded in Wichita roughly four decades ago, giving the family a multi-generational restaurant lineage.37
After establishing multiple locations in Wichita, HomeGrown expanded into the Kansas City metro in summer 2021, beginning with Brookside, and subsequently into the Power & Light District (announced 2024), Leawood, Merriam (announced 2024), and Liberty.456 As of 2026 the brand reports roughly 14 locations spanning Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Arkansas, and Nebraska.7
