In Good Company is a members-style craft cocktail lounge in the East Crossroads, opened in early 2025 by Kansas City native Cedric Ransburg with college roommate and business partner Daniel Edwards. Set in a brick-and-skylight space with a deliberate living-room feel — no TVs, no marquee, no neon — it pitches itself as a connection-first “haven” and alternative to the city’s club and corporate-nightlife scene, operating on a monthly membership model.

Description

In Good Company is a members-style craft cocktail lounge in Kansas City’s East Crossroads, at 1518 McGee Street just south of the T-Mobile Center. The space is built to read as a living room rather than a bar — exposed brick, a roughly 30-foot ceiling with a skylight, multiple seating areas, an unmarked black facade, and no televisions — a deliberate counter to the noise and screens of the Power & Light club scene. Owner Cedric Ransburg describes it as “a haven” and “a hidden gem” oriented around connection and conversation, governed by three house principles: “no bad company, no bad spirits (on the shelf, or in people), and no bad tippers.”

After an initial public-facing run, the lounge moved to a membership format in March 2025, with members paying a minimum of $50 per month for four drink credits and the ability to bring guests. Non-members can still experience the space through curated event nights before committing to membership.

Ownership and history

In Good Company is independently and locally owned. It was opened in early 2025 by Cedric Ransburg, who was born and raised in Kansas City, together with his college roommate and longtime friend Daniel Edwards. The two met at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla and stood as best man at each other’s weddings.12

Ransburg spent roughly 13 years in California (about 11 in Los Angeles and 2 in Orange County) working in hospitality before returning to Kansas City, where he served as assistant general manager at Nighthawk and revamped its beverage program. He launched In Good Company as his own venture after that role, drawing the membership concept from Los Angeles lounges he had worked in and the connection-first ethos from his hospitality background.12 Edwards, his partner in the venture, is an architectural engineer and former mayoral-appointed Economic Development Commission commissioner who also owns Eastside Lumber.2

The lounge opened to the public around February 2025 and shifted to its membership model the following month, positioning itself as a mature, low-key alternative to KC’s larger nightlife venues.23
