Ownership and history

Per the studio’s own history page, the founder is Professor Inkslinger — G.L. “Gary” Barber — who became interested in tattooing in 1968 and opened his first studio in 1980.³ That 1980 studio is described as the first tattoo studio in Johnson County, Kansas, located outside the then-active Navy air base near Gardner, Kansas.³ The studio moved to 1015 West Santa Fe in Olathe, Kansas in 1983, and then to Overland Park in March 1991.³

Beka, the founder’s daughter, learned the trade under her father’s “lifelong tutoring” and works as a tattoo artist in the shop, making Inkslinger’s a second-generation, father→daughter operation.³ Multiple third-party listings independently describe the business as a “father-daughter” shop.¹⁴

The seed catalog records the daughter’s name as Beka Kramer; the studio’s own site refers to her only as “Beka.” The “Kramer” surname is not corroborated in the sources reviewed.
