Inkslinger’s Tattoo Studio is a father-daughter tattoo shop in Overland Park, Kansas, founded in 1980 — by its own account the first tattoo studio in Johnson County — and run today by founder G.L. “Gary” Barber (the “Professor”) alongside his daughter Beka.

Description

Inkslinger’s Tattoo Studio is a long-established, family-run tattoo shop located at 7530 Floyd St in downtown Overland Park, Kansas.12 The studio is operated as a father-daughter team: founder G.L. “Gary” Barber — known to clients as “the Professor” — and his daughter Beka.3 It offers custom tattooing with a noted specialty in fine-line and single-needle work, and welcomes walk-ins.14

The shop bills itself as a multi-decade Kansas City institution, citing “over 45 years” serving the area as of 2026.4 Current posted hours are Tuesday–Saturday, 10:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m., closed Sunday and Monday.4 Listed phone: (913) 631-4889.4

Ownership and history

Per the studio’s own history page, the founder is Professor Inkslinger — G.L. “Gary” Barber — who became interested in tattooing in 1968 and opened his first studio in 1980.3 That 1980 studio is described as the first tattoo studio in Johnson County, Kansas, located outside the then-active Navy air base near Gardner, Kansas.3 The studio moved to 1015 West Santa Fe in Olathe, Kansas in 1983, and then to Overland Park in March 1991.3

Beka, the founder’s daughter, learned the trade under her father’s “lifelong tutoring” and works as a tattoo artist in the shop, making Inkslinger’s a second-generation, father→daughter operation.3 Multiple third-party listings independently describe the business as a “father-daughter” shop.14

The seed catalog records the daughter’s name as Beka Kramer; the studio’s own site refers to her only as “Beka.” The “Kramer” surname is not corroborated in the sources reviewed.
