K-Macho’s Mexican Grill & Cantina is a family-owned Mexican restaurant and bar with two Johnson County locations: 1229 E. Santa Fe St, Olathe, KS 66062 and 11741 Metcalf Ave, Overland Park, KS 66210. It was opened in Olathe by Armando Romero — “more than 10 years” before June 2024, so circa 2013 or earlier — with the Overland Park room following a few years later. The kitchen runs a broad Mexican and Tex-Mex card built around house-made flour tortillas, chimichangas, enchiladas and sizzling fajitas, with a weekday lunch menu and a rotating $9.99 daily lunch special.

Description

K-Macho’s occupies two rooms on the Johnson County side of the metro. The original is on East Santa Fe Street in Olathe, a few blocks east of the Johnson County Courthouse square; the second is on Metcalf Avenue in Overland Park.1 Both are full-service restaurants with a bar — the business trades as a cantina and sells the drink program as a co-equal draw, with margaritas made from lime juice squeezed daily.23

The house signature that customers describe most often is the tortilla operation: flour tortillas made on site on a visible tortilla machine.2 That claim comes from a customer review reproduced on the restaurant’s own site rather than from a staff statement, so it is corroborated first-party but not independently.

The food is a wide Mexican and Tex-Mex card rather than a narrow regional menu — enchiladas in eight or more configurations, five named chimichangas, sizzling fajitas, molcajete-style platters, tamales, tortilla and seafood soups, and a dedicated Opciones Saludables vegetable section.3 A weekday lunch menu runs 11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday only.3

The Romero name has now branched. In June 2024 the Kansas City Star reported that Emilio Romero, then 25 and Armando Romero’s nephew, was opening his own Mexican restaurant, Emiliano’s, at 2137 E. 151st St. in Olathe in a former Pizza Hut, targeting an August 2024 opening. Ownership and history

Armando Romero opened K-Macho’s at 1229 E. Santa Fe St. in Olathe “more than 10 years” before the Kansas City Star’s June 3, 2024 report — placing the founding at approximately 2013 or earlier. He opened the second location at 11741 Metcalf Ave. in Overland Park “a few years later”; the Star does not give a year for it, and no first-party statement of either date was located.4

The business is described in circulating listing copy as “owned and operated by the Romero family.” That phrasing originates on aggregator review sites and is not treated here as an independent source; the family-operation fact rests on the Star’s account of Armando Romero as founder and his nephew’s employment history in the kitchen.4

Not established on this pass: the legal entity name and Kansas registration (the Secretary of State’s business search returned HTTP 403 to automated access), Armando Romero’s birthplace or year of arrival in the Kansas City metro, any predecessor tenant at either address, and the origin of the name “K-Macho’s.” All are.

menu_status: verified — an itemized, priced menu is published on the business’s own domain at kmachos.com, and online ordering runs through the restaurant’s own ChowNow direct storefront linked from that domain.35 All prices below are first-party, read from the restaurant’s own menu page on 2026-08-13.
