KC Watch has been repairing and selling watches and clocks in the Kansas City area since 1978 — making it one of the metro’s longest-tenured independent watch service shops. The business occupies a retail space in the Cherokee South Shopping Plaza at the southwest corner of 95th and Antioch in Overland Park, a location it has held since 1987. Services include watch battery replacement (starting at $7), band and bracelet adjustments, and full watch and clock repair across most brands. The shop also carries a curated retail selection including Citizen Eco-Drive, Fossil, Casio G-Shock, Seiko, and college-licensed Suntime watches (KU, K-State, Mizzou).

The business was originally founded as “KC Digital Watch Co.” by Bob and Shirley, who began repairing watches out of a spare bedroom — servicing other stores and individual customers before demand grew enough to open a retail location. After a couple of relocations, the shop settled at its current 95th-and-Antioch address in 1987. Their daughter Cheryl Bayliff purchased the business in 1998 and has operated it since, bringing her son Jimmy into the day-to-day work and keeping Shirley (the grandmother and co-founder) part-time on staff. The operation now spans three generations of the same family.

KC Watch’s reputation is built primarily on word-of-mouth — the shop describes its standing as the result of “quality and honesty” accumulated over nearly five decades. It operates Tuesday through Friday 10 a.m.–6 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m., closed Sundays and Mondays.

Ownership and history

KC Watch traces its origins to founders Bob and Shirley (surnames not publicly disclosed), who started the business in 1978 as KC Digital Watch Co. out of their home. The repair-first model — servicing watches on behalf of other retailers and directly for customers — gave the business its foundation before a brick-and-mortar presence followed. The shop relocated to its permanent Cherokee South home at 9552 Antioch Rd in 1987.

Cheryl Bayliff, Bob and Shirley’s daughter, acquired the business in 1998 and has led it since. Her son Jimmy represents the third generation in daily operations, and her mother Shirley continues to work part-time. The family’s unbroken ownership across three generations and 48 years places KC Watch in rare company among Kansas City’s independent service businesses.
