Description

Moon Marble Company is a retail shop in Bonner Springs, Kansas, that combines a marble-and-toy store with a working glass studio. The store sells machine-made marbles in a wide range of colors and designs — from pee-wees up to 50mm — as well as handmade art marbles, traditional toys, games, and gift items.1

The shop’s signature draw is live marble-making. Owner and artisan Bruce Breslow performs torch-work demonstrations for visitors, melting colored glass rods over a propane-and-oxygen flame, pushing molten glass into graphite molds, and manipulating the glass with metal picks to produce the swirled spheres favored by collectors. Visitors watch from gymnasium-style metal bleachers, with overhead screens fed by cameras trained on Breslow’s hands and workbench. During demonstrations Breslow narrates the glassworking process and shares marble history.23
