an authentic, family-recipe Mexican grill and cantina at 751 E. 63rd St. in East Brookside, KCMO, opened August 2025 by two longtime KC-area restaurant families (the Riveras and the Ramoses); Tier 1 as a multi-generation, owner-operated venture rooted in years of local Mexican-restaurant work.
Description
Muy Caliente Grill & Cantina (full name: Muy Caliente Mexican Grill & Cantina) is a Mexican grill and cantina at 751 E. 63rd St., Suite 110, in Kansas City’s East Brookside neighborhood.12 It occupies the former Brady & Fox Irish pub space, a venue that was downsized from roughly 5,000 to 3,900 square feet to accommodate a new office tenant when the restaurant took over.3 The restaurant opened on August 14, 2025.4
The concept centers on authentic, family-recipe Mexican cooking, with the partners stating their goal of bringing “more authentic Mexican cuisine to the Brookside market.”3 The menu spans street tacos, sizzling fajitas, burritos, enchiladas, and margaritas, plus all-day breakfast options such as huevos con chorizo and breakfast burritos.1 Signature dishes include the Caliente Burger — a plate-sized burger with cheese, sausage, ham, lettuce, onion, tomato, and housemade sauce on artisan bread imported from Zacatecas, Mexico — alongside Quesabirrias served with consommé for dipping, and traditional Menudo.3 The space includes two adjacent bar areas (one styled as a sports bar, one for dining) and a dog-friendly patio with affordable beer.35
The business is presented as actively operating, with an online-ordering option and current posted hours on its official website, and a Yelp listing updated May 2026 carrying customer reviews — confirming the restaurant opened and continues to operate.15
Ownership and history
Muy Caliente is the joint venture of two KC-area families brought together by a longtime friendship between the two patriarchs.3 Fredy Rivera and his oldest daughter, Saray Pilar Nonato, partner with Noel Ramos and his oldest daughter, Gepsiva Ramos.34 The Ramos family manages day-to-day operations, supported by Noel’s wife and son.3 All four principals bring extensive experience from working in Mexican restaurants across the Kansas City area, and the menu draws on the families’ own recipes.3
The Rivera side already operates another local restaurant: Fredy Rivera and his daughter own El Plato Mexican Grill & Cantina in Lee’s Summit.32 Muy Caliente thus represents an expansion of an established KC-metro restaurant family into the Brookside market.
The owners also planned to honor the prior tenant: the former Brady & Fox space is tied to Irish chef Shaun Brady, who was killed outside the restaurant in August 2024, and the Muy Caliente owners said they intended to install a memorial to Brady.34
