In memoriam — Nico & Ana’s Italian Street Food (Overland Park, KS, 2023–2026). A piada-forward Italian street-food spot in The Fountains shopping center near 119th & Lamar, opened end of February 2023 and permanently closed late February 2026 after roughly three years. The owners thanked the community and said they hope to “regain strength and knowledge for our next chapter.” This page is a tribute and historical record.

Description

Nico & Ana’s Italian Street Food was a fast-casual Italian restaurant in south Overland Park, Kansas, built around the piada — a thin Italian flatbread wrap that was the house specialty.12 Beyond piadas, the menu ran to pasta dishes (carbonara, baked ziti, baked pastas, several ravioli dishes, creamy sausage rigatoni, pasta primavera), meatball sandwiches, fried calamari, and salads, with desserts including tiramisu, cannolis, gelato sandwiches, and spumoni ice cream. The restaurant served beer, wine, and cocktails.12

A signature menu item was “Ana’s Favorite,” a piada with lettuce, bruschetta, roasted corn, sweet pepper, provolone and mozzarella, fried chicken, and roasted-red-pepper garlic dressing.1

The restaurant occupied space in The Fountains shopping center off 119th Street and Lamar Avenue — the former Spin Pizza location at 6541 W. 119th St.13

Ownership and history

Nico & Ana’s was opened by Armando Dela Torre, co-founder of the locally popular Mi Ranchito Mexican restaurant chain (first location in Olathe, 2004; later eight-plus locations across Johnson County, Lawrence, and the Missouri side of the metro). Press reporting noted that Dela Torre “also previously owned other Italian restaurants and has been developing an Italian menu for some time,” positioning Nico & Ana’s as his entry into Italian fast-casual dining.1

The restaurant was first reported as coming to south Overland Park in February 2023 and opened at the end of that month.12 It operated for roughly three years.

The origin of the names “Nico” and “Ana” is not stated in available press coverage.

Closure

Nico & Ana’s permanently closed in late February 2026, with local press reporting the closure on February 24, 2026 (“announced its closure on Friday,” i.e., the preceding Friday).3 The owners posted a closure message thanking the community — “We appreciate the love we received from the community. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.” — and, per social-media reporting, framed it as “not a good bye” but a pause to “regain strength and knowledge for our next chapter,” with hopes to open again in the future. Signage on the door described the closure as “until further notice,” but the owners characterized it as permanent.3

No specific operational or financial reason for the closure was given in available reporting.

Legacy

For about three years, Nico & Ana’s gave south Overland Park a rare piada-forward Italian street-food concept — a format uncommon in the KC metro — anchored in the former Spin Pizza space at The Fountains. It is also notable as a cross-cuisine venture from one of the metro’s most prominent independent restaurateur families (the Dela Torre / Mi Ranchito group), showing an established Mexican-restaurant operator branching into Italian fast-casual. The owners’ closing message left open the possibility of a future return.
