Ninfa’s Tortillas & Taqueria has been a Kansas Avenue institution since 1988 — one of the longest-running family Mexican restaurants in Kansas City, Kansas. Founded by Ninfa, the restaurant has remained faithful to its origins for nearly four decades: fresh tortillas are made every day, and the tamales are prepared the same way Ninfa made them when she opened. Kansas Avenue has long been the heart of KCK’s Mexican-American community, and Ninfa’s is one of its anchors — a breakfast-and-lunch taqueria that closes at 3pm, serving the neighborhood’s working community at the hours they need it most. The simple hours and the consistent product are the whole story: a family that has spent 37 years making fresh tortillas for Kansas City.
